>50 year old men having an opinion on abortion.
Why don't we just let the women who's pregnant decide?

I think rape is bad

Don't rape people then
User avatar #94 to #80 - kayen (12/18/2012) [-]
I think I see your logic as if ''We must stop them from doing bad things''.

Well... The difference here is that the raped person gets it's life ruined. If a gay couple marry... Well.. They're married. Will it ruin the life of someone else? No. Only if you decide to let it rust your jimmies so badly you dedicate your life to something as pointless as stopping people from doing things that won't harm anyone else.

Just reposting a comment from someone the last time this was posted:
"Don't like peadophiles? Don't have sex with kids
Don't like rape? Don't rape people
Don't like heroin? Don't take heroin"
Good old logic.

Okay, I am going to state my thought out opinion of abortion due to all of the arguments in the comments below, based on certain situations.

If a girl gets pregnant due to being stupid and whoring around: She should think about the consequences of what she's doing and be prepared to deal with it. A girl having an abortion due to her lack of caution is ridiculous, in my opinion.

If a woman gets pregnant and her health is in serious danger: If the woman's health is in serious danger, I think that the baby should be removed from her body immediately. Whether through a premature or c-section birth, it's worth a shot to keep both the mother and child alive.

If a woman gets pregnant due to rape: I think in this situation, the mother should go through with the pregnancy, even if she doesn't keep the baby. There is always the choice of adoption, for parents who want to have a child, but are unable.

(Being adopted myself, I am very glad that my mother decided to go through with her pregnancy, even though I wasn't planned and she wouldn't be able to take care of me. The family I was adopted into is amazing and I couldn't be more grateful. My mother now was born infertile so adoption was her only opportunity to have a child.)

inb4 tl;dr- It depends on the situation, though I don't agree with abortion most of the time.

Think about what pregnancy is. If a girl gets pregnant due to being stupid or rape you're saying she shouldn't have an abortion.

Think. What does pregnancy do to a woman?

The woman will be going through physical and mental stress for something she never wanted. For 9 months, she will experience hormone flux, weight gain, rashes, metal mouth, morning sickness, and then add on complications.

The woman will also have to go through childbirth - for something she doesn't want. She may never have children again after this due to damage. She will also likely either give the child up for adoption or keep the thing she never wanted. Adoption centers are already full. The child and mother will suffer if she keeps it due to money/cruelty.

Think: What do you think all this abuse would do to a mother of rape? To someone unprepared to have a child? Many rape victims go into depression and become paranoid. Add a child on that. Unprepared to have a child? Add a child anyways.

This is called choosing the child's life over the mother's life.

Ok, don't hate me for making a valid argument. (Also, atheist if anyone cares)
Feel free to disagree, just don't hate (i.e. hurr durr stupid atheist lol fag). I'd quite like someone to be able to change my mind, actually...

Abortion: if the woman is raped, what sort of psycological damage would she suffer from giving bith to the child? What about if she lives on the street, what will happen to the child? May I refer you to this Bible quote: "But better off are those who have never been born, who have never seen the injustice that goes on in the world.” Ecclesiastes 4:3. Fair enough, the Bible tells us not to kill, but it doesn't directly mention abortion.

gay marriage: who has the right to say that love between two people of the same gender is any less valid than between that of a man and a woman? Yes, marriage is religious in its roots, and the purpose of marriage according to the Bible is to create children, but what about adoption?

Creationism: you can teach children about creationism, but the problem is when you tell them it's the only true theory behind how Earth was created. It's not, and you can't deny the existence of evolution, and refusing to teach it, or learn it, is just ignorance.
SImilarly, I don't agree with religion but (as you can see) I have made an effort to learn about it.

Gun laws which seem to be an issue which was brought up: there are only two options, everyone has guns or no-one has guns. There's no middle ground. I'd like for people to not be able to shoot me, and I don't really want to shoot others, but if they have a gun I'd like to be able to protect myself.

Abortion doesn't really fit well here.
My own opinions notwithstanding, pro-life people literally believe abortion is murder, and there is some merit to that view. Given that premise, they are completely justified in wanting to ban it for everyone.
User avatar #236 to #230 - Ruspanic (12/18/2012) [-]
That's absolute bullshit.
Since murder is the most direct example, I'll use it - if I think murder is wrong, are you going to tell me that I can't want to ban it, because that would be imposing my views on people?
The goal here is protecting the potential victims, not enforcing my own morality.

For those that don't believe in abortion the issue isn't "don't get one because you think it's wrong". In our eyes you are killing that fetus, just because I'm not killing the fetus doesn't mean I'm not passively letting thousands of people kill fetuses because they aren't responsible enough to not get pregnant.

Sometimes people are presented with a situation in which there are only a couple options, and all of them are negative. I believe when you end up in that situation you must take the lesser of the two evils.

I personally think that anyone who is not ready for a baby shouldn't have one because babies take an unbelievable amount of work and money, especially in the case of rape, where all of a sudden you are a single mother who was forced into having a child you didn't want. You would most likely have to abandon all of your dreams and hopes for the future in order to take care of the baby. (Who will constantly remind you of one of the worst experiences of your life.)

Contrary to what a lot of churches say, I don't think anybody ever has an abortion happily. They are expensive and very often painful procedures. Some people like to think that those whom get abortions are just whores who use abortions so that they can have as much sex as they want. This is very untrue for the vast majority of women who get an abortion.

I do respect your beliefs though, as you are stating them politely. Most people get so angry over this issue that it becomes a name calling contest.
