Walter Bunning F CNN
C) don' t care if the parents of kids
involved DO give their permission. You keep
your reporters away from those kids. Asking
them to relive the most horrifying experience
of their lives so soon is heartless, shameful
and nothing short of sensationalism. Just
because you can' t get enough information
from adults at the scene is no reason to
hound the kids. In so doing, you are only a
thin line from being as hurtful as the shooter
himself. I find that kind of reporting
unconscionable and appalling.

>Other countries.
That's the worst kind of argument.

I grew up in Serbia, on of mentioned (Other Countries) I also grew up during the times of the Genocides.
Long story short, as a child, I saw some **** man.

So, what, guy? Should the united States ignore genocides, and mad gunmen because African children get blown away every day?

Have a ******* heart, bro, it isn't exactly fun losing your baby boy.

I'm probably going to get thumbed down and I'm going to sound like an insensitive asshole, and I know it, but why is this getting so much attention?
I'm not saying what happened isn't terrible, but why this? Why do we pay so much attention to this, and not the other tragedies that happen?

22 Kids were stabbed in China on the same day.
I've heard no news of that reported by anyone. Personally, I feel deserves just as much attention. Not just this of course, but every other atrocity that happens on a daily basis.

Pic unrelated, really had nothing else.

There's just no shame nowadays.
All of a sudden there is terror and murder around them, they run for their lives and when they are finally safe there's some dolled up woman in an ill-fitting two piece suit shouting "HOW DOES THIS MAKE YOU FEEEEEEL" In your face.

Because watching your teacher and all of your friends be murdered while you're still in kindergarten is completely acceptable. and you should be over it after a day and a half.

The cold hard truth is that most reporters dont give a **** about anyone or anything other than themselves, and ofcourse the TV ratings.

Actually in this shooting the press has done a better job of focusing on victims more than on the shooter but doing it in a way that doesn't "hound them" instead they are trying to get the point across of what are we going to do about this and how are we going to prevent it in the future.

There will come the day that something bad happens and when the reporters ask "How do you feel about that?" that person would ******* destroy the camera and punch the reporters in the face

The medias actions are not benign acts of compassion but rather a mask for self gratification. A combination of guilt and ego require them to act to ‘serve’ those they find less fortunate, but only to the extent of allowing them to feel better about themselves.
We can only maintain this self gratification so long as those being ‘helped’ remain in a state of suffering. Should they manage in finding meaning in their suffering they cause us to envy them; we find ourselves longing for the meaning in suffering that they have found.
When those the media pretends to help do not fit the mold that they construct it infuriates those deriving self gratification from them. No recipient will ever conform to the mold of abject suffering without redeeming qualities which is set forth by attention, love, and compassion; the backlash of hatred becomes inevitable.
The only purpose of sensational media is to derive a perverse gratification form their aid and to receive large sums for their "aid". The narcissistic goals of the media only beget more acts of pity.
Yet, pitying is a violent act – we maintain those in poverty because it psychologically gives us a feeling of being better than the objects of our "social services"
In the face of a crisis of suffering, we are presented with two options:
1) we could systematically attempt to destroy suffering in vain, and in so doing destroy the value of life by creating a resentment of the world and predetermining our actions.
OR
2) we can accept that chaos and discord are inevitable, that preventing suffering is impossible, and escape nihilism by affirming life as it is.

Just because this guy's a sensitive little bitch, doesn't mean everyone is. If my school were to get shot up, I wouldn't mind being questioned as long as I get paid for it. Also, I'd prefer it if people knew what happened, so we can avoid it happening again, instead of being shut up about it.
User avatar #78 to #69 - simonlc (12/16/2012) [-]
So if one of your best friends was killed in front of you, you wouldn't care so long as you got paid to describe it?
