While I'm not one to overly support the media/news machine that is CNN and all of the propaganda that they spew...they are airing it because this story is touching people.
What you say is very, very true. Children around the world die every single day due to starvation and poverty and systems that just do not work. And it's fucked up. It's horrendous to think of children dying because they couldn't get a meal to eat, or because affordable medicine wasn't available to them. It destroys me to think of the things that happen to children around the world daily. People pay attention to those issues as on and off as a television because they are so far away. Some people choose to support through programs and donations, while other don't trust the crooks running the charities because fractions of a penny make it to where it needs to go. This doesn't make those issues any less relevant.
But to do this now, is turning the death of children into a dick-measuring contest. I know my opinion may not matter to you, but, while I agree with you, I think you're timing is just off. You're able to react this way because you don't have kids (or maybe you do now? I don't know). I got to come home to my 3yo son, who is starting Pre-K next year and hug him extra tight tonight. I got to imagine what it would be like to send him to school and never have him come home. I can't help but to think about those 5-10yo kids who had their innocence stripped from them today for them to never retrieve (future victims of PTSD). I have to imagine what kind of person it takes to walk into a place of learning, stand in front of a bunch of 1st graders and open fire. What happened today is deplorable on many levels and deserves lots ofo attention. Why? Because it was a single act of disgusting violence and people are being affected by this. So, while I agree that CNN makes an unecessary spectacle about just about everything and breeds fear, this is necessary. This story needs to happen

Am I the only one who has seen people exploiting this recent tragedy to justify their political views? Does it disgust anyone else when people see this as no more than a argument in some debate?

I've seen the 4chan posts, which except for one seem surprisingly respectful of the dead children and are more about the congo line and the gun control people. What's really sickening is that not just 4chan is using this to be awful people, I've seen 3 pages say "Like if you care about the Newtown children, keep scrolling if you don't" on Facebook, and now this thing using it as some cheap ploy to spur a gun control debate.
Fucking world man. Sometimes I wish I'd not found websites like this that joke about it so freely. They were just kids

Isn't that what the picture is implying? That they don't have water?
