It was actually because Apple neglected to tell Google they weren't using the rights to Google maps and Youtube (of which they still had 1 year left in the contract) to make the apps for their standard IOS. So when the release came Google was completely unprepared and had to get started making their own map.

well fuck....

When the first iPhone came out Apple and Google had a deal to have Google maps on the iPhone. With Android out and Apple churning out lawsuits in every direction, Google withdrew Google Maps and Youtube from iOS6, without google maps Apple was force to try and make their own version.

That is very interesting information, which grants you my thumb. I still wonder why the content says "it's about time." About time for Google to come back, maybe?

Well since Google didn't come standard with the phone they Got to submit Google Maps an an app in the app store and just had to wait until Apple gave up on their map program.

But the content doesn't give a timeframe for that instance, it merely remarks upon the time between Apple's map release and Google's. Besides, it doesn't seem like Google's responsibility to make sure that doesn't happen.

Goggle is not responsible for the Iphone maps. They had a contract with Apple that apple did not wish to continue, because they want to be independent from Google.

Because Google is Android and Apple is Iphone... they are rivals and it kind of speaks bad for you when you are using your rivals products on your phone...

No I know, that's what I was saying, Google has no responsibility for Apple's problems.

How not? Without Google Maps, the iPhone would have to stick with the shitty built in Apple navigation system. That's a con for the phone and a deterrent from buying it.
