My mother is a teacher's assistant, and she works with mentally challenged students in high school.

There were two girls that my mother worked with, whom were born of incest (the parents were first cousins), and 13 brothers and sisters (whom they were often left to take care of all on their own. The family was very, VERY religious (but not in a good way, by any means).

There was one time in particular where my mother caught one of the girls lying, and the other twin replied with something along the lines of "We don't lie! Lying is a sin, and our mommy told us that if we were to lie, Jesus would come down and rain fire upon us.".

While I believe in God, and am religious myself, there are some times where the Christian community just makes me sick. NO parent should EVER teach their child something so...awful! Nobody should have to live in FEAR from something that is SUPPOSED to give you hope.

There are, unfortunately, far too many individuals of every religion that have a skewed view of the tenants of their own beliefs. These people lump in other legitimate members of whichever religion they belong to with them to make anyone looking on think that all the members of that religion are fanatics, zealots, insane, cultists, crazy, hateful, intolerant, ignorant, etc.

Unfortunately, based on the views of those very religions, those people are and should continue to be welcome members of that group. Unless we start excluding people from religions based on their personalities and mental capacity, this will continue to happen. Doing this, however, is exactly the opposite of the views of most religions. Therefore, most healthy-minded individuals of any given belief must simply "grin and bear" the undesirable individuals that are coincidentally the only ones that ever appear on the news "crazy-ing" it up.

Strange, isn't it?
