so instead of space mining, it would be much more cost efficient and practical to go dumpster diving.

Another flaw in this is that if we bring in outside materials, it would eventually increase the mass of the Earth a considerable amount. Or, if we mine water from carbonaceous asteroids, it could affect the amount of water in our atmosphere and mess up the climate.

Platinum, super cool material that is needed to build computers and electronics. Used to advance our technology into new and wonderful things, things that might one day give us sustainable energy, awesome robots, efficient clean fueled cars and over all better the planet... and people waste it on jewelry when you can't tell it apart from silver anyway.

mining asteroids is nowhere near feasible at the moment. the cost of transportation (there and back, including the mining equipment and extracted resources), plus the cost of actually mining the asteroid would be WAY more than what the resources are actually worth.
