Except Obama cut the funding for a moon mission, he wants to go to an asteroid then the Mars. SpaceX has developed dragon in the mean time for LEO. This will eventually be extended to Mars using the Falcon XX which from what I've read will be even more powerful than the SLS heavy lift. I think private companies will take over from here simply because NASA is stretching its budget to thin. Even if they do complete the SLS it's going to be late and way over budget.

Private companies don't have the motivation though. Except for very few companies like Google and SpaceX, no one really wants to explore space. It's one of the few things that you kinda need government funding for.

There is a thing called EMULATION .
I am preaty sure Nasa knows that and has upgraded their equipment
and emulates anything that is "not compatible" .
That been said ... this would be a STUPID solution any midle to low class programmer/enginner would come up with , when they dont know what they are dealing with . But i am preaty sure NASA are not that stupid , and making hardware based on the 30 year olds ones that are compatible wouldnt be tough at all for WORLD class engineers/programmers .

Its not that they can not upgrade it ..
its that they need an exact replica of the parts that are flying right now .
What you see is a replica of the satelite that is flying right now in orbit, and if it were to break down (the one in orbit) .. they would find the problem (and the fix ) on earth .. using the replica and send someone to go and fix it .
Obviusly they dont use the same hardware to communicate with the satelite .
It is just for test purposes .

More importantly:
Space is a void. You can't dissipate heat produced by electronics once you get the satellite up there, so the hardware has to run for years without overheating. And on top of that, it's pretty hard to have to fix satellites who have problems. So by using older technology, you are granted a much smaller heat emission (by older I mean a slower clock but more advanced cooling elements of course) as well as time-tested stability.

not yet man but i'm totally getting it this christmas. it's really sexy and i want it. it seems like it's perfect for somebody of a taller height like me (5'10") but just be careful with it as my friends mom drop and broke hers (the screen was fine but it wouldn't turn on or something). idk though it's super sexy and i'm totally going to get it because I play Nintendo 64 on my Droid Razr maxx all the time and this will just be one sexy improvement.

it's pretty easy to get used to, I messed around with one in a t mobile store and it only took me a minute to get the hang of it. i'm getting one because i broke my laptop screen and have to use my tv as a monitor, and i want something portable that i can easily browse the internet with.

Must be nice to have a phone with a media plan. I can't even use the internet on mine.

me and my sister get paid just above minimum wage and can both afford to pay for our media plans. I'm just lucky my grandma has an upgrade and is willing to use it to get me a new phone for christmas haha

I have no job, so somebody else pays for my phone. So I don't really get to pick. Luckily, my laptop is all the internets I need.
