i get your point as i am half turkish half german myself. your experience at the shopkeepers and restaurant owners are not the common thing though, you get tricked in every country. and concerning the cultural argument: it is simply invalid. look at bulgaria for example which joined the eu recently. it is full of gypsies who will try to clean your car's front window and they will force you to pay them, otherwise they'll scratch your car. ok, this may be an exception, too, but i see this every year when i travel to turkey from germany by car. other ex yugoslavian countries share the same criminal spirit, you can see much corruption there, too. turkey is changing the last 10-20 years, getting more and more 'western', i have seen the difference myself. it is either turkey joins the arab countries or turkey joins the eu. what would you like more such a powerful country (2nd biggest economical growth rate worldwide in 2011) to do? This is a discussion of the West's future. Nobody is insulting Turks, we're just critiquing modern society for the betterment of civilization.
