about an hours drive out of the city you can see some of the most wild natural landscapes this side of the Atlantic

I could tell you about Glasgow:
If you're planning to go to the town, there's plenty to do, but be sure to go there early and leave around 7-8 pm. There's the cinema, as well as loads of shops. You can see a show, as well as dine in a restaurant there.

Depends where you are going, in Glasgow stay in the nice areas, in Edinburgh avoid the homeless, in Aberdeen make sure you're not out at night in an area full of locals as the rough ones have stabbed two of my step-dads co-workers for being too wealthy (oil is a big thing there), don't go to Aberdeen it's a dump and Dundee gets bad press but the student area is really nice.
