Since this seems like the place for it, I'd like to share with you guys a story about my mother, who in my mind defied stereotypes in my childhood.

When I was in my young teens (I'm 20 now), I would hear stories from a number of family members about how my mom was one of the last people one expected to have a child because of her "wild child" attitude, and some hinted that she would not be a good mother because of that.

Fast forward a few years.

My father passed away from plural pulmonary blastoma a month before my sixth birthday, losing the fight with cancer. Due to her depression from my dad passing away, mom wasn't able to get a job and we lived off of our savings and raised my brother and I on her own. She kept my brother and I clothed, fed, and made sure we went to school.

It wasn't until a year or so ago I learned that my mom never considered looking for another boyfriend/husband until I went off to college, because she didn't want my
brother and I to feel like we were being replaced or neglected, and gave up many of her bad habits.

Several years ago, when my brother and I had gone to bed, my mom had fainted (which she then learned was a heart attack). She told us she didn't think she could get up because of the pain, but said she didn't want to leave my brother and I parent-less, and it gave her the to get up and call the ambulance, which saved her life.

Over the past few years, a string of bad luck eliminated our savings, leaving us with no income besides my dad's army pension. Even with bills stacked high, my mom continued to put my brother and I before herself no matter what, making sure we were completely taken care of. She still does this to this day, sending me care packages in college even though money is tight back home.

When my brother and I were taken into social services, she fought tooth and nail to get us back, doing everything requested of her and then some.

TL;DR My mother constantly restores my faith in humanity.

These posts always put me in good mood

why must humans fight each other and yell at each other over every small thing we do wrong?

We clearly do so much good as a race, if we worked together, we would get so much more done

Thank you for part 2, OP
