Colorblind people

The whole reason of the top down, 3 separate lights is so that color blind people can tell what which is stop, go and caution, this defeats that purpose.

This is so great, because I've always found the normal ones to be SO hard to read. It's like, SOOO complicated. Thank God someone is thinking ahead. This will solve all of the world's hunger problems and everything! Maybe even cancer!

Except itd be bad for color blind people and super expensive to replace them all.

The grammar in this tells me that it's a cheaply translated ad.

sure it looks cool, but i dont see a problem in how our lights are now.

Simple systems work better. Adding this much complexity would mean more maintenance, in addition to reducing the reliability of traffic lights. They don't need to look pretty, they just need to work.

they cant do that for a few reasons, one is so color blind people can drive based on what light is on top, and two the lights arent on a ridgid timer, they cange depending on traffic, this thing would have to constantly slow down or speed up depending on what traffic is like

but if they were color blind then couldn't they just as easily think it was the wrong color and try to drive through a red hourglass thinking it was a green hourglass? Hmmm?
Theres a reason that the syestem of 3 lights hasn't changed since its invention. If it aint broke why fix it

Am I the only one who has never seen a light go from red to yellow to green? Always Green yellow red.
User avatar #30 to #27 - combatplatypus (12/08/2012) [-]
No, that's just how they work.
User avatar #56 - MythBuster (12/08/2012) [-]
people would fucking speed like crazy to try to make the light.. this would be way too dangerous with all of the fucktards that live on this earth

Also most American lights do not rely on a timed system, they rely on sensors to see if cars are still passing through intersections.

You cannot put a visible timer on a traffic light because the light is not any color for a set amount of time. Let me explain. Traffic lights are designed to adjust their timing based on the ammount of traffic going in either direction. They have sensors that detect if there are no cars on one side of the intersection, and they react accordingly. They also do traffic studies where they count the number of cars on a road at certain times of day. There is an elaborate science to it. It is much more complex than just a silly timer.

The problem with this is the amount of individual LED's needed for this to function would not only be not cost friendly, but very high maintenance.
User avatar #45 - blujaytwentyone (12/08/2012) [-]
yellow twice would confuse many people.
I wouldn't be able to help racing on the count down.
User avatar #44 - breadbasket (12/08/2012) [-]
All this would do, is encourage people to race.
Dat countdown.
User avatar #43 - corundum (12/08/2012) [-]
People are trained to be prepared to stop at all times by the current system. Hourglasses would be ridiculous.
User avatar #40 - sinonyx (12/08/2012) [-]
count down to go would get so many people in trouble
User avatar #26 - donmakemehlaf (12/08/2012) [-]
i knew a guy who was color blind, straight up gray scale couldn't see any color, he could drive just fine during the day because he could see the whole light and see where the light was coming from, but at night it was much harder to tell from a distance. there's my 2 cents on this thread.

The problem of having lights with timers is that people will start to go off before its time, like 1, 2 or even 5 seconds sooner
This will cause accidents, and could be a cause of death insome situations...
That is precisely why most coutries use the normal ones
