I hate when people decide to exclude themselves from the electorate all of a sudden just because their candidate didn't win. Granted, I also hate the people who are all "OMG FAITH IN HUMANITY RESTORED" when their candidate wins, but I think that the "You elected him" routine is one of the most petulant, childish things an adult can say. It's like the fat kid on a little-league soccer team blaming his team-mates for a loss by saying "You guys didn't run fast enough."

inb4 "I didn't vote for him, you massive gaylord, so he isn't my president."

By casting a vote for any person in an election, winner or loser, you are recognizing the legitimacy of the contest and thereby affirming that you will accept the outcome no matter who wins. You are also recognizing that, according to the American electoral system, whoever wins a plurality of the votes in the electoral college is the winner of the contest and that the word of said plurality is representative of the nation as a whole.

tl;dr Legally and philosophically, you elected him, too, regardless of the person for whom you voted.

User avatar #77 to #75 - marlkarxthethird (12/08/2012) [-]
Oh. Terribly sorry. Well then, my argument no longer applies to OP, but it still applies to the many people that I've heard use the same phrase and that vocalized to me their participation in the respective election.
User avatar #78 to #77 - bitey (12/08/2012) [-]
There's a pretty good chance that he either didn't even vote or isn't American. Also there is a pretty good chance that he was joking and not trying to anger anyone, though I don't even understand how that would anger you, seeing as how he's just stating a fact. Albeit not directed at you, me or anyone specifically. Just those who are United States citizens. Was this simple little sentence in a post on funnyjunk really worth overreacting? It really is no big deal.
#80 to #78 - marlkarxthethird (12/08/2012) [-]
Boy, imagine the world we'd be living in if Luther hadn't gotten all hot and bothered over indulgences. Just shrugged it off as "Haha, silly Catholic Church!" That'd be something, eh? Or if he'd had a buddy that was all like, "Woah there, Martin. You've got NINETY-FIVE of these here theses? Don't you think you're overreacting a tad?" But then, if I were in Luther's place, I would probably say to that friend "Why do you give a **** what I do with my own time and ability to think critically, huh? Just let me have my piece, and you can have yours, how about that?"

On a different note, I find it incredibly unlikely that OP isn't American due to the use of the word "Our" in the title.

User avatar #82 to #80 - bitey (12/08/2012) [-]
Dude, it's a post on funnyjunk. Do you treat every insignificant thing in your life like it's going to change history?

Just because I voted for someone in an election doesn't mean that I voted for the winner no matter what. And it doesn't mean that I have to accept what the winner of the race does.
I didn't vote for obama because I didn't like his views so i voted for someone else. I, in no way, voted for obama

tl:dr I don't agree with you
User avatar #26 to #25 - marlkarxthethird (12/07/2012) [-]

But then you are probably the same person to say that if you didn't vote, then you shouldn't complain about who won.
User avatar #79 to #69 - marlkarxthethird (12/08/2012) [-]
I generally don't think you should complain about the results of a democratic election if all went according to legal precedent, barring extenuating circumstances like the 2000 *********** . Here's where I differ from the majority of the American public: I don't believe that democratic government or even representation is a right. Hell, I don't even believe it's a privilege. It's a luxury. When you start to complain about luxuries as if they're natural rights, then it's time to re-evaluate your priorities.

This probably came out all wrong because I'm trying to condense my philosophy into a few sentences (plus my ability to give a **** is slowly draining away as I've been writing all afternoon), but I'll stand by it nonetheless.

I honestly don't see what the inconvenience is with Obama. Honestly I could care less who's president, but really. He's not that bad a guy.

I'm probably getting thumbed down for this.
#64 to #35 - anon (12/08/2012) [-]
He really isn't as bad at politics as people imply he is. But he's not as good as his supporters would like to imagine either. The most noticeable thing he does is he likes to address problems and promise to fix things he simply cannot. He couldn't get America's unemployment rates to go down like he said he would (more than likely they will stay close to a stand still this term), he couldn't bring USA's troops home like promised, and couldn't bring debt down. You could classify this as egotism if you wish, just plane lying, or any other of the reasons people think. Either way it is a dreadfully bad trait, and a reason USA dislikes him. The other is he is breaking the constitution. Given, just about every president after Kennedy (and some before) have done this is some way, Obama is doing it in ways ,that if it continues, it could be exceed the misuse of power that Bush and Nixon did.
And for those reading this please note that im not American, and this is just my view of the asked question. If you would like to point out flaws in the political argument or add something it would be appreciated

now lets give this photo some context

On January 30th, 2009, a 4 panel comic depicting President Obama hitting a kid with a snowball was posted onto the site Superpoop.com, a website by Toothpase For Dinner artist Drew.

A photo series of Obama from 2007 was posted to Digg on Feb 5th, 2009 with the title Obama is Kind of a Dick along with the insert of a poor orange cat who appears to be the victim of the fun. In actuality Obama was throwing a snowball at at a campaign staff worker, never pictured in the original published set.
