back in the days of the NES since the cart couldn't much memory for an actual game, so game devs would make the game much more difficult so the game would get prolonged (such as castlevania 1, super ghost and goblins and so on). This was also compensated by making stupid bullshit RPG farming to make the game longer (i.e simon's quest).

You're not mistaken. I've yet to see a recent game by any mainstream developer that can present a proper challenge like games of the 80's and even early 90's could. A game with challenge, like ghosts and goblins, or Castlevania 1 & 3, is something that the gaming world of late is really missing. I'm not saying all games need to be that hard, but it seems that so few of them are nowadays.
