Somewhat relevant story

>Be 17 at the time
>Got a friend who knew a guy
>Friend tells me story
>This guy told a girl she was a bitch and slapped her
>Girl gave him an uppercut, flew up from her seat, and grabbed his head and kneed him right in the face
>Guy was bleeding from face, stormed out, and everybody was laughing at him
>She was a lightweight full-contact national karate champ.
>You never know what **** you might be causing to yourself.

What the girl did was really irresponsible... If someone in our Tae Kwon Do group did anything like this and got caught (which is pretty likely because beating somebody up like that is illegal) the person would be thrown out in no time.

Remember, there is a difference between striking with and without provocation. Being kicked out from the group by standing up for yourself? Sounds like a bunch of pussies to me.

since the guy slapped her first it's self defense. if she attacked first she would be banned for sure, but not now i think.

"Self defense" is - just as it says - defending yourself. You always have to make minimum damage to the attacker and never go too far. Kicking someone in the face with a knee for a slap...? Too far even if the slap was hard.

Part of our training is learning discipline and that girl sisn't have it the slightest bit.

Nah. People trained in martial arts are considered by law weapons. If you use a weapon even in self defense you're pretty much ****** if you get caught.

If you know martial arts you're regarded as a weapon?
"Hey! I want to learn to defend myself"
"Ok, but if you learn this, you can't use it to defend yourself."

Nice logic.
