You are given the acceleration a=1 m/s^2. You use the given acceleration as velocity which is wrong.
Use the formula: F=ma=GMm/r^2 giving:
a=GM/r^2
M=a*r^2/G
M= 1*5^2/6.67*10^-11=2.8*10^11 kg

Indeed. Though he stated "this is actually the exact unit I'm studying in physics". Which leads me to believe that he should know about this stuff. I learned this in the danish equivalent of highschool, so to be that far off when you study it.

While you did use the correct formula, I don't know how you got 25/6.67 = 2.8. The mass is 3.75*10^11 kg. According to Wikipedia, that's around the mass of the whole human species.
