Well it must be some kind of genetic deformity (not saying that it's wrong or bad or whatever) because at its most primal level it doesn't allow for procreation and the continuation of the species. It's not a problem in modern times since there are so many other people to have children, but still.
A gay gene hasn't been isolated, so it may not necessarily be genetic. There's been some speculation that it's caused by hormone imbalances in the womb, or even in some cases post-birth experiences affecting development (I don't mean the lack-of-male-role-models thing espoused by some social conservatives).

Many psychologist believe that we are all bisexual and that we only prefer one over the other in our minds because it's considered "normal". Their basis of this revolves around cultures (particularly the ancient Greeks) that perceived it as natural, so most men and women were bisexual. So I've heard, if someone wishes to debunk me go right ahead.
The "we're all bisexual" thing sounds rather Freudian. Freud wrote some good shit, but it's largely been discredited.
However, the Ancient Greek example is what I was talking about when I said "post-birth experiences". Growing up in a community where homosexuality is completely normal would certainly affect who or what you're "naturally" attracted to.
Take the Internet for another example. I'd bet most gore fetishists on the Internet probably did not find that shit attractive when they were 8, or even when they started puberty. The fetish probably developed through psychological conditioning.
At the same, "normal" porn becomes boring by comparison.
This is almost certainly not the sole cause of homosexuality, but it may be a factor for at least some gay people. I don't think all homosexuality is the same or has the same roots.

Not necessarily. Genes are not the only things that impact hormone production and other bodily functions. Hormones are released in response to internal or external stimuli. Things like drugs or stress or abnormal environmental conditions could cause abnormalities that are not inherent to the mother herself.
