I view this more as a comment on the new meaning of certain words. Like in the south park episode where they show that the word faggot, formerly describing a homosexual, now most commonly is used as an insult for harley-davidson-riding 40-year olds. In the same manner gay now refers to any one feminine looking young artist you despise instead of meaning homosexual.

I didn't really care at all. If I was given the opportunity to meet someone famous I wouldn't wear anything but what I normally wear. The old tradition of having to wear a specific arrangement of fabric just because tradition says so is frankly stupid. You and everyone else there are just pretending, doing something because someone a long time ago said it had to be done.

Now, if you can give a legit reason why we do it, I'll change. Until then, "It looks better" or "Because you're supposed to" aren't going to cut it

Its a sign of respect to have your best foot forward when meeting someone of importance. I can understand dressing like that if he was meeting say a famous rockstar but no he was meeting the prime minister of his fucking country. By not looking nice he's saying "meeting you isn't an important enough occasion for me to change the way I dress for one goddamn day"

My best foot is treating you with respect, my clothes have no affect on my ability to do that. It's an old world tradition that has no place in modern society.

Different clothes appeal to a different set of people. Your clothes tell the person you are meeting about what kind of person you are. Suits tend to be associated with the professional world because those clothes make people look the best. Regardless of what you say everyone looks their best in a suit. I've never met anyone who looked better in half strapped overalls and a backwards cap rather than a suit. People wear suits because it makes them look better.

So you still don't have a reason why? Just more opinions and "you're supposed to." How people look is an opinion, not a reason. And why are they associated with business? Because rich business men could afford them a long time ago when others couldn't, and now we're still following their rules? I for one am not going to agree with an outdated tradition unless it some merit. An it doesn't. It's easy to prove too. Ask yourself, if I put on a suit are any of my abilities increased? The answer is no. The prime misters abilities to lead aren't affected by his clothes, so why do they matter? Why does how you look matter to your work. Unless you're a model, I'm pretty sure you're getting paid to do a job not look nice.

If you're so shallow you care about how much a person spent on what they wore to meet with you, especially to the point where you feel disrespected, you are a despicable person. You are also the one being disrespectful. And if I don't expect nice clothing from someone (say someone who can't afford it), I don't expect it from anyone

The only reason people buy certain clothes is to make them look nice. Suits just happen to make people look nicer than usual. And you want to look your best when doing something of importance. Do you honestly want to get married in athletic shorts and a t shirt? And by the way some of the shoes i'm guessing you wear (i.e. basketball, track shoes, sporty stuff) are more expensive than suits I've worn. I see people wearing 1000 dollar shoes that I would never think about wearing to formal occasion. I bet bieber's hair stylist costs more than the suit I own.

I don't buy shoes more than 40 or 50 dollars. My clothes are all cheap. Sorry, guess I'm just one of those people who's idea of respect isn't related to money or opinions, just how I'm treated.

I'm not saying that, I am saying however that most people rant on about how Queen is the greatest just for the thumbs. If Queen really is this guys favorite band then that's good for him, but i do suggest broadening his musical horizons. For example, if you like Queen, then listen to Oh Lord by Foxy Shazam.
