I believe in the bible, yes. I find it hard to believe people just decided to make a really thick book for no reason.

I know God exists, its obvious.

Yeah, there are holes in the bible but I think its because alot of scrolls have gone missing.

whats your viewpoint on epicurus or theodice riddle?

You cannot prevent evil, its part of free will.

Without evil, what is good? Nothing is, because there is no difference.
Evil is the counterpart of Good, so is darkness the counterpart of light.

Without evil, we would be like animals.

then hes not omnipotent
User avatar #361 to #360 - Giganova ONLINE (11/26/2012) [-]
man commits evil, not God.
User avatar #362 to #361 - admiralen (11/26/2012) [-]
if god is omnipotent he can stop it, and if he refuses to hes malevolent
User avatar #363 to #362 - Giganova ONLINE (11/27/2012) [-]
Listen up, evil is free will.

Since God DOES NOT FORCE free will, he lets the people commit evil, for a price ofcourse.

He's like: Fine, commit evil, but you will burn forever.

Where in the bible does it says God wants all the evil gone?
Now, thats not malevolent, but righteous.
Again, without evil, there is no good. Its called balance buddy.

My view on the bible is that is is a book of proverbs and that its the job of the individual to interpret them and figure out how to be a better person
God is just God if you kill in his name that doesn't make you a good person
As for the huge holes in the bible I just ignore them some times they amuse

In my opinion religion has been corrupted by stupid people who warp it to fit their own selfish or racist attitudes. But that's no reason to say that all religion is bad

I'll take my red thumbs like a man

My view on the Bible is the same like a view on an "Manual for operating an nuclear reactor"... It sounds odd, but it's really similiar since both have a few things in common.

If both are read without basic foreknowledge (Symbolism for the bible for example, and ,well, nuclear physics for the Manual... Ofcourse there's more, but you get the point) one will interpet them COMPLETELY, and I mean 100%/100% wrong!
A good example for that are the four riders of the apocalypse, who are "coincidentaly" named war,famine,plague... and death followed (Notice the Cause-effect in this naming style). It already sounds crazy enough if you take them literally. (Like, oooh, 4 riders on an killing spree to wipe out half of humanity).

My view on god... Well... It's usefull to believe in one... Mostly because I question God the most! My belief, that he could be really there , drives my couriosity to it's limits! Because God could be anywhere I question everything , hence, I found fun and beauty in life!

The huge holes in the Bible... In my opinion , it could be that they were put there on purpose. The author wanted the book to be flexible and longlively in terms of social studies and similiar areas.
I think the holes ,you talk of, are the exact reason why the book is flexible and longlively since one can fill those with modern toughts.

1. IMO the Old Testament is Primarily a set of parables as a opposed to a retelling of actual events, whereas the New Testament is more of a story and explanation of this one Holy Person (Jesus)'s life
2. He's out there
3. It was written by people, people make mistakes and change shit to benefit themselves.
User avatar #220 to #188 - kingpokerface (11/25/2012) [-]
Exactly how I see it. The Bible was written by man, not God. I have no doubt that some of the added or changed things to fit what they want. Example: I honestly don't think that the all powerful creator of the universe gives a shit about someones sexual preference.
#224 to #220 - gritsreborn **User deleted account** (11/25/2012) [-]
Then why follow it at all? For all you know everything in there could be changed or lies created by man.
User avatar #235 to #224 - corneth (11/25/2012) [-]
In my mind, it doesn't really matter what was changed over time. Can I prove that Jesus rose from the dead? No, no I can't. Can I prove really anything in the bible? No, probably not. Do I care? No, no I don't. Because whether Jesus really said anything that the bible said he did, I still agree with the message of kindness, self betterment, empathy and breaking of cultural norms for the sake of righteousness, no matter who it came from.

^^^ This, this, and more of this.

That's basically how I see it.

I am Christian, well born one anyways, I am not judgmental in any way shape or form. And I don't give two fucks about the bible, god, or the holes in the book I don't give two fucks about.

User avatar #203 to #156 - admiralen (11/25/2012) [-]
doesnt that just make you a believer in a god like entity and not the christian god?
User avatar #162 to #156 - bustercaller ONLINE (11/25/2012) [-]
How can you be a Christian is you don't give "two fucks about the bible, god, or the holes in the bible"? Also you spelt (spelled) God wrong.
#167 to #162 - newfiefromhell (11/25/2012) [-]
'well born one anyways.' I stil go to church and read the bible. I just don't really care about all this shit that is going on about it. The bible is just my religions opinion. Sorry if my previous comment didn't make sense man, I rarely make sense...
User avatar #170 to #167 - bustercaller ONLINE (11/25/2012) [-]
Well maybe you should try. What this world needs least is a Christian man not making any sense.
#175 to #170 - newfiefromhell (11/25/2012) [-]
At least I don't preach this stuff, and hate everything that isn't in the bible... and you're right.

What holes?
User avatar #204 to #154 - admiralen (11/25/2012) [-]
first one coming to mind for me is that the messiah is supposed to be in davids family tree, and they show that josef is a relative of david, but josef isnt jesus dad, thus jesus isnt of davids blood and not the messiah
User avatar #260 to #204 - impo (11/25/2012) [-]
LET'S GO DEEPER I SAY! To the roots! The Bible claims that God destroyed the world in a flood once and that Abraham and his sons survived... It could be that the famility tree of David has the same roots as, well, all of the Jews... So it would simply mean that the mesiah would've been of jewish decent...
User avatar #248 to #204 - bustercaller ONLINE (11/25/2012) [-]
From what I have read briefly it would seem that both Mary and David were descendents of Kind David. I'm presuming Joseph stems from David's son Solomon based on the book of Matthew. And I would think that Mary stems from David's son Nathan based on the book of Luke. What confuses me is that the bible words both genealogies back to Joseph. So I will look further into that tomorrow night and get back to you because right now I need to sleep.

Below is a link to where I found a possible answer to your question. It goes into more detail by what I said. It also answers my confusion about the genealogy described in the book of Luke. They argue that the genealogy is of Joseph's in-laws which means that it is the genealogy of Mary, Joseph's wife. Any more holes you think of just let me know. I'm sure the timeline of the bible verse the prehistoric age of the world would be one.
