This makes me sad just because it reminds me of all the vets I know who are working minimum wage jobs after serving because they can't find any other job that will hire them. pic kinda related.

Yet people like this who've done absolutely done nothing but ruin the mindset of our female youth get to live a fabulous lifestyle.

I just wonder how this happens in the US (I'm from the UK), do the troops get paid so badly?
Or is it to do with PTSD and other related mental illnesses associated with it?

Because I know after 9/11 there was a 'boom' in the amount of men and women enlisting in America, many of them very normal, and I seem to remember reading that certain standards were lowered so they could allow as many of these people in as possible.
Standards like psychological evaluations, physical evaluations etc...

I mean, I'm asking what the US Funnyjunkers think on this, not trying to toss insults.

As an officer in the United States Army, I can answer some of these questions.

Troops don't necessarily get paid badly. While the pay is below average (don't make enough to pay income taxes), there is also a big liability issue with things like equipment. Soldiers will end up replacing equipment with their own money because of how poor shape it is in (but also because they lost it). Also note that a lot of soldiers who enlist are not the best with personal finances. These soldiers did not finish college and have at best a high school education. Since all officers must be a college graduate, they are usually better with their money even though they are paid more.

PTSD does not have to do with the low pay. It has to do with what soldiers do when they are released from the Army. What happens is that the soldier is determined not fit for duty due to mental illnesses. He is medically discharged, given a pamphlet, and sent on his way. Obviously if you are still suffering from PTSD, you will not be going places. It takes too great of a toll on your lifestyle that you just cannot function.

This policy of how we treat PTSD is improving though. The generation of homeless veterans are from mostly the Vietnam war. We are seeing less and less veterans go homeless with the new G.I bills and how we treat mental traumatic injuries. I've had traumatic brain injury which is a physical thing more than mental from an IED attack. When I returned to the states, they set me up straight for Walter Reed hospital (our prestige military treatment hospital) and went balls to the wall to get me back on my feet.

This comic is only accurate I guess for those who in the older generations. But, time will tell how well the Presidents and congress have been treating the military as myself and brothers in arms become veterans.

Oh don't worry Sha-nay-nay, here is your 300 bucks a month per kid to spend on drugs and alcohol so you can go have unprotected sex and make more babies for everyone else to pay for.

God forbid we use our welfare money to help vets

It sucks that they fight for the goals of our politicians and for us, and then get tossed aside while there's a bunch of scumbags living off of welfare and food stamps who have not done a single thing for this country.

I wish this country weren't so corrupt...
User avatar #8 to #7 - Yardie (11/23/2012) [-]
Just because another country is more corrupt does not justify corruption.

I fully understand that we aren't the most corrupt country out there, and are far from it, but our corruption is still pretty bad, and is getting worse the bigger our government gets.

And Natural Rights are naturally given. Big government has the power to stifle your natural rights, but they don't have the power to invent what natural rights you are and are not born with.

Natural Rights come from the concept of Deontology, not from the concept of Government.
