This is the last one that I'll post, it's a bird eating spider. They're quite common where I live and like to stay up in the trees or in the shrubbery mainly, but they come inside and bother people sometimes. My mate had one in his shirt the other day when he put it on in the morning and got a nasty bite. (About the size of your hand, can grow bigger)

The Huntsman spider. These little buggers are extremely common, and some households are literally infested with them! But they're okay in moderation, you'd go crazy trying to get them all out of your house in spider season so a lot of us just leave them be becuase they're non-venomous and eat all of the bugs that come inside :). (Note, this isn't the best picture but I thought a lot of you would recognise it from the viral video that this is a screenshot from).

Scary as hell though when they come out of the driver side sunvisor at 70 kph 0_o

This one is a redback spider and is a very well known icon for Australia. They are related to the black widow as some of you will probably notice, except that they have that distinctive red mark on their back. They are very venomous and are a constant worry for parents as they love living in places that aussie kids like to put their fingers, like under flower pot rims and in garden shed doors.

Funnel web spiders are an iconic spider for Australians, and are named after the big funnels of webs they make in the ground as a trap for nearby prey. They come indoors sometimes and are a pest due to their extremely venomous stings. Luckily I have only ever had one indoors once, and it was near a door where I could sweep it out.

This is a wolf spider. The mothers carry around thousands of live babies which cling to her back. I made the unfortunate mistake of dropping one when I was trying to take it outside and ended up with millions of baby spiders running all over my bedroom floor :(.

This is a Golden orb spider, we get thousands of them living in giant colonys with webs that span vast distances of rainforest (like the spiders in the harry potter movie). I am pretty sure we only get them where I live (far north Queensland) up in the rainforest. There's a baby one living in my kitchen at the moment on a flower pot. I'll just leave him there until he gets too big, then I'll relocate him.

Ahhhk, yeah I think they're mainly in QLD. They might move down to northern NSW but they seem like a tropical spider so I don't think they'd go much further south than that.

I'm in south QLD too. i don't see them often but I've seen a few in the forest near here. Webs are strong as hell

How can you people live with these things.. the spiders in northeastern america are cute and tiny (I like them because of that) compared to the ones in Australia.

Haha I have no idea whether they're venomous or not I've never gotten them angry enough to find out. But I would assume that they are as most spiders are in Australia. A simple rule we follow is; just don't get bitten by anything because you'll probably die :P

Real interesting stuff man. I worked at my Zoo's Insecatarium as a volunteer and then employee for about 4 years now, so I obviously love bugs and arachnids.

We used to have some Golden Orb Spider at our Insectarium until last Spring, and I always thought they were real cool.

Their webs are beautiful! They're an amazing breed!

I know man, there webs were gorgeous. We have a spider in the North American Midwest that makes a spiral moasic in its web too, but I say its shunned by the Golden Orb's.

We also had a Birdeater Spider, I named Bertha. (I don't think she is an Australian Species though.)

I live in the US, and people usually call them a float. Rootbeer floats are the most common, but there are also Coke floats.
