Long-term effects of marijuana (for all those people that smoking marijuana is ok)
Chronic use of marijuana may produce multiple health problems later on in life beyond addiction to the substance itself. For example, chronic use is associated with high scores for anxiety and depression, with increased suicidal thinking patterns as well as the diagnosis of schizophrenia. Another important long-term effect is how THC acts on the immune system, that is, it decreases the function of the immune system, which may leave you more susceptible to frequent illnesses and infections. In terms of respiratory effects, marijuana is more potent than tobacco because, as the NIDA states, it has 50 to 70 percent more carcinogenic properties than tobacco; thus, it may increase the likelihood of developing lung cancer or at least increased susceptibility to frequent lung infections or obstructed airway conditions. Sexual dysfunction also may be a long-term effect.

Cannabis has not been proven to cause lung cancer. Some studies have found correlation (not causation) between the two, yet others have not. Even the lung damage is rather questionable, with a recent study finding that casual (or even frequent) use doesn't really deter your lung capacity. And the problem here isn't even cannabis, but rather the smoke you inhale, which can be relatively easily avoided through canna-edibles/tinctures or vaporizers. Also, some studies have concluded that the risk of schizophrenia is only with subjects who already have latent schizophrenia. It shouldn't appear with healthy subjects ingesting the marewhaanas.

I agree with cannabis decreasing the function of the immune system though. I am currently undergoing my third flu in five months. I sort of agree with the depression and anxiety part as well, but on the other hand there are a lot of things that can cause a depression. A lot.

i love weed. i have my job, at walmart, weed, and my friend ( who just so happenes to be the only person i can get weed from) who may be pregnat with my baby, or someone elses, gonna find out later. anyways my point is, i love weed, its indescribable the way i feel one it and about it. its not the only way i can be happy, but the higher i am the more fun things are. id never smoke on the job or before its theriputic. lol, black friday started tonight and i was stressed as hell, when i got home i had a little bowl, becasue i have low tolerence for it. i hate people who dis weed and hate it when people put things like this up, its offencive honestly. im not trying to be rude, its just maybe you should think about how it would make people feel, stoners have feelings too. and if you were out to make people feel bad, regardles of how you feel about it, its wrong. unless someone has a serious issure, then tell them some facts., dont just post them where ever you want,. what if someone, on there last leg before they give up on life, found weed, and it was turning there life around, making them feel joy, and they saw this.they wouild probly just kill themselfs. long story short, think before you post, and dont put **** that would offend people on the internet.

I was just saying that people that think nothing is bad with marijuana should read the comment, if you are fully aware of the consequences of using it and continue to, then go ahead, I cant control what you do or dont do. I just felt like letting the people know about marijuana.

thats a noble cause, but i dont ant to be on here and by the way, the thing you love is bad for you! no real surprise. nothing fun comes withought some for of consiquence. turnes out reading small print, using your compute and watching tvs bad for eyesight. i like thouse things. and tv rots my brain, o well. i dont care about the conciquences because i kno they arnt as severe as people make them seem, just becasue its illegal and people give it a bad rep. only reason its illegal is vecasue its so easy to grow outside, its a ******* weed even, grew in my yard once,so they couldnt rax it and everyone ould smoke pot instead of tobacco, a relitivly difficult plant to grow, needing temperate climates. have you ever tryed weed?

Long-term effects:

Though the long-term effects of cannabis have been studied, there remains much to On some such topics, such as the drug's effects on the lungs, relatively little research has been conducted, leading to division as to the severity of its impact. However, a study funded by the US government on the long term lung-related effects of marijuana has concluded that moderate marijuana use does not impair pulmonary function.

a recent 10 year study on 1923 individuals from the general population in Germany, aged 14–24, concluded that cannabis use is a risk factor for the development of incident psychotic symptoms. Continued cannabis use might increase the risk for psychotic disorder.

Other studies differ widely as to whether cannabis use is the cause of the mental problems, whether the mental problems encourage cannabis use, or whether both the cannabis use and the mental problems are the effects of some other cause. Still other studies even encourage the use of cannabis in treating schizophrenia. Similarly, efforts to prove the "gateway drug" hypothesis that cannabis and alcohol makes users more inclined to become addicted to "harder" drugs like cocaine and heroin have produced mixed results, with different studies finding varying degrees of correlation between the use of cannabis and other drugs, and some finding none. Some, however, believe the "gateway effect," currently being pinned on the use of marijuana, should not be attributed to the drug itself but rather the illegality of the drug in most countries. Supporters of this theory believe that the grouping of marijuana and harder drugs in law is, in fact, the cause of users of marijuana to move on to those harder drugs.

High people, gets high and gets hallucinations (because they're high) . And there's a possibility that people may try other harder drugs, therefore, marihuana is dangerous

Portugal has legalized ALL drugs, claiming that the money spent in fighting the drug war must be used to help people solve their problems, so that they won't need to use drugs. For instance if my life doesn't suck i probably won't need to have drugs.
User avatar #161 to #158 - whitenerdy (11/23/2012) [-]
I thought they legalized it because that would damage the drug cartels intake, if the government have cheaper and cleaner drugs then the drugs cartels, then the drug addicts would buy their drugs by the government, then the drug cartels would earn less and less money, and in the end. They would have no power left.

it's a positive side-effect, though

It's not up to you to decide what's "ok" and what's not. Let people live their own lives and be happy the way they want to.
User avatar #145 to #143 - spidahridah (11/23/2012) [-]
I have no doubts you're correct. But its up to oneself what he wants to do with himself, as long as he's not hurting anyone else. We have no right to tell others what to do with their own lives. And its NEITHER right that otherwise nice, hardworking people, are to get sentenced to several years in jail, as well as losing their RIGHT to vote, just for being caught with a few grams of a damn PLANT on them.

Let's keep this as civil as possible , he didn't say anything like "if you smoke pot you are a retard , and should not be allowed to vote" , he just stated some facts , like short / and long term effects of using it , which i think is a very good think to post because most of teen agers (and bear in mind that i am just referring to those kind of dumb teen agers that we all know about , not adults who have control over their life) who use these kind of recreative drugs as a social acceptance ritual , don't actually know what they are getting in their bodies , and they get they facts from friend that are just as uninformed and illiterates as they are.

Tl:Dr- My brother is a hard working adult , i don't mind him smoking, my gf is a ******* retard who would smoke anything just to be part of the "cool kids" , i mind her smoking.

Again, don't take any of this as an opposition to your comment , I AGREE WITH YOU.

I just felt like expressing my feelings due to his "(for all those people that think smoking marijuana is ok)."
So I guess I'll add a "(For people who denies peoples' rights over their own bodies)" on my comments.
