Geez, are you guys retarded? German is not "basically English with an accent". If you talked to a German person, you would have a hard time understanding. It's more similar to Scandinavian languages, as they all started out as basically the same language.

German has very similar sounds to dutch and english. It may be closer to scandanavian tongues, but it's still VERY similar to english.

After being in Germany, I can say that I understood most of what they said.

It's like with Portuguese and Spanish: Since roots of the language are the same, it's very easy to understand most of what the words (when spoken).

I've been taking german classes for three years and when exchange students came from Germany I had no idea what the hell they were saying. Even when they spoke English I could barely understand them.

Mein reads like dolan said "mine"
das reads like a drunken slur of "that's"
and "was" is a word in the English language, but with a different meaning. (Also reads like "what's" with a drunk slur)

I'm german and i have to say that it's harder for me to understand americans than british people .
Maybe it's because the german pronunciation is really choppy i guess ...
I believe the americans (escpecially the southern ones) don't use their tongue as much as the german or brits do ...(only my opinion)

I can say that i prefer speaking english (even if i do that many mistakes like in this text)

It's sounds way more graceful than the german dumb-farmer-sounding-language.

There are crates with 24 bottles, but the bottles are smaller, just 0.33l and not 05.l
