Yeah, but Rockefeller had a monopoly over ALL of the oil and basically destroyed everything in his path by using extreme undercutting to get rid of the competition and then spiking the prices up as high as could be done to keep profits up.

All but a few oil companies in the U.S. come from the once dominant and towering Standard Oil.

The market determines the price. Overpricing goods is unprofitable. I'm sure his prices were much lower than ours today. "Destroying everything in path" is how men have gathered resources effectively since the beginning of time. Only recently has going green been considered so important.
