Mickey did not learn of the hideous nature of our world through the slave trade, but by captaining a steamboat up the belgian controlled river Congo.
He arrived in Africa only to be delayed months while waiting for engine parts, time spent observing the managerial incompetence and the native worker's death by overwork. He heard rumours, while waiting, of the director of the inner station. A man of fierce intelligence, who brought more ivory from the murky heart of the continent than anyone else.
It was not until later that he heard them speak of the man with fear.
And not even when he at last reached his destination, heard the cries of the natives, saw the heads on spikes before the station house, did he truly understand. No, that moment came for Mickey when he heard the enigmatic character breathe his final words:
"Tha hurrur", said Dolan. "Tha hurrur."
