I live by the whole "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you" mantra. Not fanatically or anything, it just seems like a good way to go about life. And most of the time, people don't reciprocate. But when they do. Well, that's one of the very few things that can turn an entire shitty day into a great one.

That's pretty much why I do anything I do, I just hate it when I see things like this because then everyone starts freaking out about doing good things because you might accidentally do something good for some big powerful guy who can then do shit for you. Those moments are few and far between, especially when most of your chances to do good come from buying a sandwich for a homeless guy, or giving someone without a car a ride in a rain storm. I'm pre-empting everyone who's going to take this message as "If you do good things, good things will come back". If anything, it's more "If you do good things, you'll feel good, and notice more of the good stuff that happens anyway." but changes are the guy you give a dollar to isn't going to be the CEO of world bank looking for a protege out of people who give dollars to homeless people.

I heavily disagree. I understand your situation. I am a very genuine and nice person, I will do anything for anyone, no matter what it takes or what I have to go through. Sometimes I ask if anyone would do the same for me, or if it actually comes back around. Sometimes it may take a too long, but i've found that being a decent and genuine human being always counts for something, and definitely gets you places.
