People use a mac to refer to a Macintosh. People don't use a win to refer to a windows computer. Because so many different brands make PC's, unlike just Apple that makes macs, people refer to windows computers as PCs. It doesnt matter which brand made the PC (Acer, Asus, Alienware, Dell, etc.) its better than a mac.

"People don't use a win to refer to a windows computer."
"People don't use a win"
PC stands for Personal computer, which does include the Macintosh.
OS X is a BSD Unix based operating system with a GUI which is more user friendly than Windows for many users. The OS allows for permissions based accounts, and has better access controls to limit the spread of malicious software (yes, there are viruses and proof of concepts which target Apple software), and protects the system folder from write actions unless a user has magical fairy princessistrative privileges.
The ease of use is often cited as a primary reason for educational institutions and art related business to defer to Apples.

Congratulations.
You're a faggot.
I believe what I said was true. People DON'T use "win" to refer to windows. The 'a' was merely a typo. Perhaps I had a broken keyboard? Regardless, PC does stand for Personal Computer, but that doesn't mean people go around saying "Look at my new PC!" When they have a Macbook Air.
Furthermore, most "educational institutions" use Windows, rather than mac, due to the fact that learning how to use a mac doesn't actually teach you how to "use" a computer. Programmers and engineers alike prefer Windows over Mac any day. That's why in the important labs and factories, they don't rely on the shitty apple OS. Hospitals now have gone far enough to use Apple instituted iPads, and spend the effort converting them to Windows OS because of the limitations of the Apple OS.
Also, this is from knowledge that I have, not googling "PC" and "OS X"
I don't make mistakes.

Want me to sink to your level, telling you about how I was captain of my school lacrosse team through high school, how I double majored in Chemical and Computer Engineering at UC Davis, and how I made more in the first year out of college then you ever wiil in any year your entire life?
No. Because then I look like an idiot, AKA you. Checkmate faggot. Go home

All what I said is true. I don't need to look at the sources you need to google because you don't know anything about this. A mac may be a PC, but when people refer to Macs, they refer to Apple computers running a Mac OS. When they refer to a PC, 95% of the time they are referring to a computer like Acer, Asus, Alienware, Dell, etc. that is running Windows.
I already told you, my keyboard was broken ;)

Holy shit you are really getting into this. I am suprised how seriously you are taking it.
Big talk coming from the retard who used a SATIRE post as his source, and then said "Ignore the Satire"
You still think you're so "Cleaver"?
Still need pictures to make yourself feel important?
Nigger please. What we both said remains true. "WHEN PEOPLE REFER TO MACS, THEY REFER TO AN APPLE COMPUTER RUNNING A MAC OS" I can not make this more painfully clear. I don't give a FUCK if its right or not. You're like an autistic asspie who walks around yelling at people on the street for ending a sentence with a preposition. The fuck is wrong with you?
When someone says "PCs are better than a Mac" You know exactly what they are talking about. If you seriously don't, and have to get all butthurt that a Mac is technically a PC, then you are more autistic than I thought. Grow the fuck up, go outside, stop being retarded.
In society (You know, where normal people live) if someone says, "I prefer PC to mac" they are talking about non-apple products, probably one made by Dell, etc. that is running some form of Windows. When they say Linux, its usually the same thing, just running Linux OS. When they say Mac, they usually mean an apple computer running an apple OS. Because who the fuck wants to install that shitty OS on anything else? And if you DID know enough about computers to install a different OS on your computer, THEN you would probably use appropriate terms, let alone not arguing about it on the internet.
Technically when I typed that status my keyboard actually was broken. I meant it as a joke, but it's technically true... Although you're autistic and have to have everything your way, that's the truth.
Want me to use a picture to make you feel better?
>You made a mistake kid, face it.
You have let this go on for hours to make yourself feel cool, because you're the dumbass who thought you could ignore satire, because you fucked up with your sources. This is the internet. Funnyjunk for that matter, no one gives a fuck how good you are at looking on google. When you're in school (Hows freshman year going for you?) yes you use sources. When you're out of college, and in a job, you use the technology and knowledge you KNOW. You don't google how to make gas from a fucking tree you stupid shit.

Maybe daddy will love you now.

Hahaha, I actually laughed at that.
But again, just summarizing, what I said was true, while what you said was true. We were both too caught up to realize.
You're saying in essence, a mac is a PC. Which is true.
I'm saying, people use the term (At least 99% of society, maybe different from wherever you're from) "Mac" to refer to an apple computer running Mac OS, while people use the term PC to refer to a windows computer. That's it. Whether its technically correct or not is actually beside the point. I never said a Mac WASN'T a PC, I don't know why you think I said that, because that's what you're arguing for

Like I said from the beginning.
"People don't use a win"
That was intended, since people DO use a term "Mac" to refer to macintosh.

*most marketed windows pc's
dont forget about the people who manage to build a machine that is alot more powerful than marketed imacs, and macbooks, but $1000 dollars cheaper.
i do like mac though, and putting bootcamp on, so me and my friends can play lan.

A Mac is a personal computer, not a PC. The term PC was coined and trademarked as the actual name for an early IBM computer. Saying IBM PC was the same as saying Dell Inspiron. That led to the market defining anything running IBM's architecture a PC, since most computers aside from Macs use it or its derivative. So no, a Mac is not a PC because a PC is defined as something with a specific hardware architecture. It's a personal computer and yes there is a difference.

As for virus proof, with a decent anti-virus and common sense you really don't need to worry much about viruses. How much faster is it? And how can it run any OS software? Do you mean it could essentially run batch files as well as sh files? Not a troll, just wishing to learn.
definitely not, i have ubuntu and linux mandriva running in virtual machine on my pc and programming them to do what you want and installing software is a bitch, if you understand computer code it's a good choice, otherwise i would stick with windows 7 ultimate 64bit simply because it will always work, sure there are viruses but they are only a problem if you can't handle your files properly, i use google chrome and internet explorer and i have had no problems, frankly if you can program linux you can program windows 7 to do the same stuff easier with less effort, if you want to try linux do it on a spare hard drive so you can see what can and can't be done so you don't have to reprogram your old drive all over again.
Hm, alright then. Right now I'm using win7 ulti 64 bit, and i agree, viruses are only a problem if you don't know what you're doing, a little knowledge and a decent security software should be enough to keep you safe.
I might try it some day, just for the fun of it.
Anyway, thank you for clearing that up for me!

have you tried to use the free virtual machine software(win7 ultimate only) that comes with windows xp yet? if you do you can create extra virtual machines and install any os on them seperately while in windows and still boot them in a window, you have to download the program parts from the microsoft update website first to use them and your motherboard has to support virtual machine.
Neat. My setup is nowhere near that powerful. But then i again, i don't really need to run 4 virtual OS simultaneously.
I'll just give it a try when i have the time and see how well me and Linux will get along.
If i remember correctly, there are several builds of linux, are there any major differences with them? More specifically, is there a version that is designed for people that are new to Linux and isn't as hard to figure out?

like i said if you don't understand how to install stuff in linux, you're better off with pretty much anything else, try installing wine and software center when you're just getting started, unless they started putting that stuff in the os at the start recently to reduce a headache, most people will have nothing but trouble getting started, especially people who aren't used to computers in the first place, as for your statement above, i recomended using virtual machine because it will prevent a system crash if it gets an os crash and you can delete a virtual machine and start over from scratch if you mess up, that way your system os files are protected, as general patton once said, don't forget to cover your rear.
i know about software center, my problem arises when i try to install something that's not in the software center or when i need drivers for my hardware that i can't get from the linux website, if your hardware is common than it will be easy, if you have my hardware, not so much, the biggest problem is getting your hardware to work first, after that it can become much easier.
not when they don't have drivers yet supported by linux, i can't even run a 64 bit linux os with my processor because it says it's not 64 bit when it was made to be a 64 bit processor and linux doesn't yet support my network adapter either and i'm sure as hell not going to go learn machine code just to install unsupported hardware and novice my ass, my first computer was a 50mhz sulfur screen with a 10mb hdd and about 5 mb of dram running dos 2.10 and i have built computers from there all the way up to now using the newest parts available that i can afford, installing drivers on a linux os isn't the same as installing them on a mac or microsoft os because they have driver install packages they make for them where in linux you have to mess with other software unless it's already in the software center waiting, i should be able to go online and download something and have it able to install when it's on my hard drive instead of having to pick thru the root files to get the job done, installing that exotic software in a windows or mac pc was easy and there was support for it exactly where it was supposed to be, of course you know about linux as well, it's obvious all you use is linux with that avatar image, who else but a linux fanboy would use that? if i had someone who knows more about linux to show me stuff in person i would know about as much as you because i learn by observing but sadly there's no one around here who knows enuf to teach me enuf to get a programming boost so i can continue to learn more, because that's what i do and always have done.
*hardware
i had to assemble it myself to make it work and had to find a compatible driver that would allow me to operate it, i had to make the hardware because they didn't sell a micro pci-e ultimate-n adapter for a desktop pc, so i had to find a laptop to micro pci-e slot adapter and install the special laptop only card for the ultimate-n into it so i had room for my other hardware so i could get all of the bandwidth when i wanted it for running as a server, there's much more but i would rather not tell everyone about the special stuff in my tower that i had to go on a software hunt to get running.

While windows has updates....linus has something 2 things.synaptic packet manager(which is like your system update) and software manager which allows you to download progams such as google chromium, games, programming progams, web browsers, social networks, and many many many more . with windows you must search the webs and be sure about these programs authenticty and whether or not they will harm your computer. With linux all the programs you find in the software manager have been reviewed and created by users like yourself so there's not need to worry about (will this fuck my computer up?) further more if you are good with programming and what not you have and endless world of improvement at your fingertips. It is far more flexible than windows or mac could ever be. While linux is based of unix just like mac linux is far more flexible than mac will ever let you be since linux is the customizable version of unix for the basic/ advanced user. and windoes runs dos which IMO is nowhere near flexible as unix. That being said Linux is incapable of running windows programs without the help of WINE. What wine is a program the runs windows programs .however if you are not particulary tech savvy i guarantee you will pull your hair out trying to configure wine to get it to work

Actually I'm a senior college student in comp science, also programming for almost eight years and own my own business in web development/server side programming. I noticed your little Linux conversation going on over here. I would like to jump in on this conversation.
I come from all three backgrounds due to me career choice/profession. Mac honestly is the best for portability. Yes they are a bit overpriced, but the macbook is just a beautiful laptop all around. They're run pretty fast, the keyboard is nice and quiet, and they just dominate in portability. And a 13" Macbook isn't much more than $1,000, it's not that bad of a price unless you're a poor, whiny high school student.
Windows is the best for gaming and productivity. I love working on Windows. It's got the most widespread support for applications and performance wise, it just dominates. I've grown up on Windows and it will probably always be my main choice for OS.
Now for LINUX... I wouldn't necessarily say it's more "customizable" than Windows.Where Linux dominates is that, number one, like you said, it's for the programmer (and enthusiast). Linux can virtually run, hassle free, nearly any programming language, no matter how new or old. Secondly, it's got the most extreme and powerful command line interface than any of the competition. Linux command line lets you brute force, schedule jobs, compile/run programs hassle free, and honestly, if you master it, it's faster than a GUI. I've professionally worked on Ubuntu and Fedora, and did alot of the UNIX based Debian in college as well as Matriux which I have on a bootable 16GB flash disc. Lastly Linux is very fast... run it on a SSD and it will boot in seconds.

Best for gaming? Youre kidding right? I think thats a touch subjective. As far as portability: 150$ netbook, installed linux. fucker is BLAZING. hw much did you say that little macbook was? 1000$ ? Yeesh. Windows is a good OS, but when you have to say things like "Windows can be just as safe, if youre careful, or with the right antivirus" ..Linux is safe out of the box. It has a virtual box standard. AND it has COMPIZ on top of everything else. Not to mention its even easier than windows to use.

Actually Windows hands town is best for gaming as of this day and age, it's not really even a close competition. Yes, Windows does take up alot of resources to run, which could better be used for gaming. But why would you want to run games on Linux? Three out of four games don't natively support Linux OS. It is getting more mainstream support, including Steam which is awesome and most games run on, but you have to admit, most games don't run on Linux which makes it a poor choice for a gaming OS. Yes, this are workarounds using Wine but come on, that's not the right way to do it! It is looking promising though that Linux is getting more support. I want to say Linux is better here but it really isn't, the game companies just don't support it that much yet. Besides that the hardware manufacturers like Nvidia don't natively support them and sometimes you end up having to get makeshift drivers.
Macbook... look I'm not some huge Apple fag fanboy. But have you actually used a Macbook besides trying one in a store somewhere? Hardware wise, they are wonderful laptops. They're very thin, very light, well built steel that doesn't fade from your hands/sunlight, they have a backlit keyboard, a nice magnetic power adapter so people knock it on the floor that are walking by, and they have amazing battery life. They're the ideal computer for a college student or someone that needs portability. The new Chromebook with an SSD looks very cool though for only $250. It's not about the OS here but the hardware, they are just nice laptops.
Linux is easier? Not for the average PC user. And viruses on Windows? Please, most ISP's come with a A grade anti-virus software. I have Norton. Never had problems with a virus or other bugs for a good six years now. And you think you're safe on Linux, just give it time. Malicious people are out there and they WILL target Linux. I feel safer with Norton that protects my bank info/logins/the works than Linux which doesn't really have much security.

I agree most mac's have a decent appearance but could you not have a beautiful case for a pc and have linux or windows or any form of the mac OS installed on it?and besides......macs are mainly for portability and don't have the raw power that a desktop boasts there for are terrible for gaming and designed for graphics and what not.....but going deeper could you not also build and amazing custom rig with a graphics card that would blow any mac out of the water?(at the cost of mobility)
That's the exact point. Macs aren't for gaming, they are for carrying around and school things. My brother is an artist, and he uses his Mac mostly for music creating and art, not much else. They are supposed to be mobile, but not super powerful, just enough for what you need. I love windows, and I only have a dell xps which is an awesome laptop, but it is heavy and annoying to lug around. I really want to get a desktop Ican make myself, custom cases and the sort.
Macs- mobile for people on the go such as college students, the best bart is the actual computer NOT the OS.
Windows- for games and other programs that require strong amounts of cpu., generally fairly heavy and not super mobile
Linux- for users and programmers that like to have full control of their computer.
Tl;dr Different Computers/OS for different people

The fact that you need an antivirus in the first place is evidence enough it isnt remotely as secure as linux. So because the support isnt native thats your arguement against linux gaming? Every game I run on linux runs FASTER and BETTER than on windblows. It doesnt matter what is natively supported since Linux can run any game you throw at it regardless of what OS it was made for. Wine isnt the right way to do it? Why? just because? It works, and it works well, not to mention its easy. My games run just as fast if not faster in wine. Most games dont run on linux? Every game I have runs on linux, including games made by Microsoft itself. Not to mention that unlike when a new version of windows comes out, you dont have to spend several hundred dollars to get the newest release of Linux. Always 100% free.

A month ago I'd be on the Windows bandwagon. I got a Mac as an early Christmas present and I love it. It's sweet considering all I do is surf Funnyjunk.

Which is awesome. For students and leisure users a mac is fast, clean, and easy. But for gamers, a PC is better. Like comparing a road bike to a mountain bike. Not much you can do on a road bike but its faster for what you want to use it for
Does he need it to play games? Why buy something with the potential to do something if you're never going to use it. A graphic calculator is better than a scientific one but if you're not going to use the graphic calculators functions why bother?
true true but for me im a gamer at heart.....i used to have and old imac but was constantly frustated with its inability to play games since at that point in time games were mostly tailored to windows and still even today games are tailored to windows....but hey if you dont use it for games and it works great for then more power to ya

People seem to think by me posting this status I have a huge lust for PC's and I think macs are the infidel, horrible scum of the earth.
I just thought the way he did that was clever, and didn't really expect he was gonna say PC.

HURR DURR MAC SUCKS PC IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm tired of this Mac vs PC arguments. They both have their pros and cons, deal with it.

You know what you're getting a thumb from me. I happen to love PC computers but your picture is 110% accurate of a common Windows computer(although I owned a Macbook for a while my previous college gave me until I returned it when I quit the school, it was nice I will admit).
The main thing that kills PC's is sed blue screen. I have a very high end desktop computer I built earlier this year, in fact, I am on it right now. Thing, it blue screens like a mother fucker. And it gets that same fucking blue screen that you posted, DRIVERIRQLNOTLESSOR_EQUAL. Needless to say it drives me FUCKING INSANE.
I don't get it. I have this thing stress tested and stably overclocked both RAM and CPU. I've checked over and over for hardware errors, I have Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows is just a real fucking asshole with blue screens. It will run the most demanding games for hours without failure, BF3, Crysis 2, you name it, I can run it and nearly maxed out settings. But whenever I am doing work (I'm a programmer from home, kickass job), this thing will randomly decide to blue screen on me. Even this morning, turn it on, WINDOWS CANNOT START DUE TO A SOFTWARE OR HARDWARE FAILURE... getting real sick of the shit for the money I put into this thing. Re-installed Windows a few weeks ago, still doing it.
On top of that, have a high end Toshiba Qosmio, 2 years old, intel core i7, one of the best laptop's money can buy. Actually physically broke once from blue screens, had to send it to Toshiba. I have windows 8 on it now and so far Windows 8 is very stable, never got a blue screen (yet).

I'll just be honest, I've owned maybe 4 windows computers (as well as a linux computer) , one over 5 years old, and never once have I ever blue screened.
From what I've seen, blue screening happens more from you personally screwing up your computer over time than it screwing itself up.

...Are you retarded?
People like you who know little about the operations of a computer are the kinda of people who use macs.
Look up what torrenting is. There is absolutely nothing wrong is torrenting itself, it is simply a form of downloading. It's what you torrent that could be a problem.
TL;DR, blue screen only happens from torrenting if you torrent a fucking virus because you're retarded.

iPad != Mac. They're both made by Apple but are completely different markets, components, operating systems, etc.
But I still agree with your point, OSX and Windows both have their high points, and Macintosh computers are fairly high quality despite using overpriced components that drive the purchase price up. People give Macs way too much shit; I think if you honestly care that much about other people's preferences than you're kind of a douche. (Not you, obviously)

To be honest, the OS isn't bad, if you want to work. The laptops/desks on the other hand are over priced and mid-tier
And the bandwagon hate i still dont understand.... if you dont like it, why do you bother to continue to get mad about it?

I own both a PC and a Mac, and I absolutely love them both. I have a gaming PC with Windows 8 and it runs perfectly like a dream. I have a 13 inch MacBook Air because I love the simplicity of Xcode on the Mac platform and the fluidity in which I can access all my apps, switch windows, switch screens, etc. with simple multi touch gestures. People that hate on PCs that are Mac fanboys are extremely ignorant of the fact that not only are they cheaper but they can do most things Macs can do. People that hate on Macs (which are definitely the majority here) forget that Macs are not all about the raw specs. They are built where every piece of hardware and software work perfectly and seamlessly together which almost always makes for a smoother operating system experience. Yes they are more expensive, but they are built very well and never ever have battery problems. Apple is all about improving all the details perfectly, and PC (Microsoft) is all about reaching as many people as possible. For the technologically impaired, Macs are perfect as every single thing works right when you turn it on. There is no spamware or popups that come with prebuilt computers, especially the first time you turn a PC on.
TL;DR: PCs and Macs are both amazing coming from someone with as little bias as possible.

I have to use Macs for college but I prefer PC because of the fact that I can build my own.
