The idea that lowering taxes will increase revenue, jobs and profits (by increasing disposable income and incentivizing investment and consumption) is today primarily espoused by Republicans.

Especially the revenue part.

Yeah, just cutting taxes makes no sense. You have to couple it with lowering spending. That way, the government retains more money, and the people have more money to spend to stimulate the economy.

You're right, and most Republicans also advocate cutting spending.
In theory, it may be possible to increase tax revenue by only lowering taxes, if the incentives created by low taxes sufficiently increase consumption and employment. If more people are employed, there will be more people paying income and payroll taxes. If average income is also increased, people will move to higher tax brackets and pay more because they now make more money (though on the whole the rates have actually gone down).
I believe this is what Mitt Romney advocated- increase revenue by increasing the number of taxpayers, while lowering taxes for everyone.

This is a pretty big if, though, because it relies heavily on the idea that incentives created by tax breaks will be sufficient to substantially increase employment and income to make up for the tax revenue that would otherwise be lost. I suspect many Republicans endorse this theory simply because it helps them reinforce their ideological opposition to taxes (which is in itself perfectly legitimate).

The US government's revenue has tripled since the 1950s (adjusted for inflation and population growth) whereas government spending has gone up by around 3000%.

The government has a spending problem, not a revenue problem.

The government should try to raise revenue through microtaxes, ergo something like a 5 cent tax on every electronic transaction, cash withdrawal, cash deposit, and anything that has a non-paper transaction on one side of it. Something so insignificant that it won't do much.

That and abolishing the nickel and penny. The government spends something like 5 cents making a penny, and ten cents making a nickel. Just round off every transaction and make dollar and half dollar coins.

As for spending cuts:
Military: We spend more than the next 17 countries combined, make up 42% of global military spending, and have two oceans, a desert, and the Canadians surrounding us.
Education: Subsidize charter, private, and religious schools, which spend less per student and produce smarter students. Yes, even the Catholic schools do. Fucking teachers unions don't care about students, they only care about protecting teachers.
Welfare and Unemployment: Cut a lot of government handouts and replace them with Earned Income Tax Credits, which are a government subsidization of labor which means that the poor get paid pretty much minimum wage for working in factories, and the government puts a little on top of that equalling to around the same amount if not more as what they recieve from welfare but now the poor are working. The private sector does most of the work in helping the poor.

And all those problems leading to Twinkies..

The price of sugar skyrocketed, demand dropped, and the labor just stopped working. When your product is getting expensive to produce (cutting into profits) but you can't raise prices too much because demand is already going down, you don't have extra money to give to workers who suddenly decide they want more and are going to have a company wide strike until they get it. Considering that hostess told all the workers that the company was gonna out of business if they all suddenly stopped working, smooth move on the laborers part.

Hurray! Now instead of having less than they would have preferred, they get nothing!

On the bright side, Hostess is going to probably sell all of its assets, including the Twinkie recipe, to other companies. Someone else will make the Twinkies buy those people working in the factories just put themselves out of work.

... But... What?.. There is NO patent on twinkles, in fact, there are quite a few "imitations". I bought a box of Little Debbie "Cloud Cakes" and they look, and taste, exactly the same.

In fact in fact in fact, Twinkies are 60-70 years old. Patents only last for 20 years.
