they are protecting their shores from companies dumping toxic waste, and they take ships hostage in return for money, or goods, it's not that it's fun, they have to do it to survive

I never asked about fun, I was asking if they are only somalians or if they take help where they can get it. Obviously I'm not going to jump off my couch and go join the somalian pirates, just a question that popped into my mind. Like how my friend had a random thought of if there were black people on the Titanic. Interestingly enough there actually was only 4 black people on the titanic, a family to be exact.

I'd imagine pirates would be cool with just about anyone who can shoot & do pirate shit.
The biggest problem for outsiders/white people in Somalia would probably be the xenophobic religious wackos. So it's not too different from the US.
