Here's a protip on how to remove the background from an image.   
   
As you can see here, it's very easy to use a "green screen" effect to fill in the background layer and then select that colour and remove it.

or you could just select the white background with the magic wand tool.. much easier

Both methods work, but I find that that Magic Wand tool produces shoddy selections. You can note the less refined edges on the magic wand one in comparison to the colour removal method.

I simply prefer the colour removal method.
