Yeah, the initial interface isn't very user-friendly. That's why most redditors install a "Reddit Enhancement Suite" extension which allow you to simply click a button and see the pics/vids without having to go to a new window or page. As for the content, almost everything you see here on FJ was on Reddit frontpage 24 hours ago. I prefer reddit for the news sites, scientific articles and occasional Q&A with a celebrity. The community I find to be much more engaging. Here, I just see random images and comments barely making a full sentence. But I dunno, that's just my personal taste.

Give it a try before discrediting it. There's really nothing wrong with using either site. A good comparison is Facebook and Twitter. Both are social media sites where you can just post about your life and what you're doing. It's just that Facebook has a lot more features than just that. Some prefer exposure to more things, others just want a site for one thing only.
