What kind of an engineer are you? Also, what kind of degree or whatever do you need to be one? I'm kinda interested in it.

Well I'm not technically an engineer yet but i'm currently in the process of obtaining a bachelor's in electrical engineer. as for what kind of degree you would need it would depend on your engineering specialty. the process is NOT easy trust me; if you get C's in high school because you're lazy or copy you will not make it in engineering not even close. based on your field of study and college you'll be taking classes like programming, physics, calculus 2 or linear algebra, and an introductory course to engineering your first semester of college. once you DO get the degree though to become certified there's a standardized test you must receive of 70% on to receive a license (this license also has to be renewed periodically) and the test is approximately 8 hours long. i'm not trying to discourage you only prepare you for what i wasn't lol. but take the advice of the school of engineering principle at Miami University in Oxford Ohio (my college) and don't give up so easily because the world is desperate need of people like you.

That didn't discourage me at all. Thanks for telling me. I make pretty good grades in school (A's and high B's), and I'm a year ahead of my class in math. The field I'm wanting to get into is Computer/Software Engineering. I don't know any programming languages yet, but I've started working on learning Python and I plan on trying C++ afterward. I've still got plenty of time to learn though (I'm only a sophomore in high school). Physics is something that I know next to nothing about though, so it might be a little harder on me, but it shouldn't be too bad.

be warned the programming has probably the highest learning curve of all fields. the logic is a completely new type of thinking and recently our class had a 70% failure rate on a test and by recently i mean yesterday...if you do go into software engineering make sure you READ the books; people who don't read fail at college it's one of the pitfalls. also good thinking on learning languages; try your hand a Java as it's probably what you'll start with as a freshman in college and having the upper hand in that will be helpful. C++ is also a good idea to look into!

Java was another one that I was planning on learning, I just wanted to learn C++ next because Python is derived from it and knowing Python would make it easier to learn. Thanks again for the advice!

If you're really interested in writing Java you could download a program called Bluej. it will allow you to write code, compile it, and run the program. make sure you download the Bluej program and the JVM. just google all that and you'll find it

Also, learning Python is not the same as learning to be a good programmer. Learning efficient algorithms is learning to be a good programmer.

That being said, if you have a teacher that's more than worth half his/her weight in poop, you'll be better than most candidates. Most candidates can't even do the FIZZBUZZ program, which is Computer Science I stuff.

Its really not that hard, you just have to read the assigned stuff. Then everything is repeated in the class (pretty much). Also, do optional programming exercises, that help you quite a bit :)
