I wouldn't say this comic is saying "happiness is a lie"
To me, it looks to be more like what the sufferers of depression go through.
They spend their alone time miserable and inactive, wanting the world to swallow them up and never wanting to leave the comfort of their bed.
But they know they have to go out in the world, and they put on their happy front--and nobody assumes anything is wrong.

I used to be similar before I started taking meds, but I started realizing that every minute I spend being unhappy is another minute of happiness lost forever.
I know those things are easier said than done, I've been there, but it's more about forcing yourself to think about the good stuff.
And it's not something than can happen overnight either, so don't give up if you don't feel yourself standing straight right away.

Haven't been to any accident, most likely haven't had any close relative die recently, may or may not have been bullied most of his life, don't have any relatives on mild drugs.

have just been living the same unchangeable life since forever, does pretty much the same thing everyday, so you don't know when you're happy or bored because you're always content, you don't feel anything. You're just an emotionally empty shell, and that makes you depressed, and think the whole world feels the same way as you.

TL;DR
