Fact: Those are not his knees. Many animals and most birds have their knees very near their bodies. Their heels are about midway between their body and feet, which makes it look like their knees bend backwards. (themoreyouknow.jpg)

depends how you look at it though, you could just say that a birds knees are oriented backwards, or is there something specific that defines them as heels other than the orientation of the joint?

they are anatomically equivalent to our skeleton. it doesn't depend on how you look at it, they also have femurs, shinbones, etc
