I feel like it would have been funnier without that second to last panel. If it ended with "AMAZING" it would have been hilarious.
Remember that if it takes us by surprise, it's at least a thousand times funnier. That second to last panel sets up for that punchline, but does it in an obvious way. The phrase, "That was" is usually never ended with, "horrible" or "painful."
Imagine having the blood everywhere, screams of agony, and then, "AMAZING." No real explanation. The absurd is always hilarious.
The setup was perfect for that punchline. Just that second to last panel doesn't need to be there.
