I prefer Squirtle.

Squirtle's evolution set has the ability to learn ice-type moves, which allows him to kick Bulbasaur's ass, provided he can is fast/strong enough to get the job done before dying.

Besides, you get to laugh at your rival for choosing Bulbasaur.

Venusaur can learn earthquake

Yes valid point. Except you forgot Earthquake would not effect Charizard as it is a flying type.
