I live in Rhode Island, and I think it should be merged with Massachusetts. Then we can induct Puerto Rico and still keep all our flags and memorabilia and **** .

That makes sense, since Obama stated (lol) that he's been to 57 states.

What have you done, America...

Hate how American's say it's bad for the UK to have an empire, but we can't say anything when they're considering taking up states. It's just a more hidden version of Imperialism.
User avatar #31 to #25 - AngryPlatypus (11/09/2012) [-]
Pretty sure they're letting Puerto Ricans have a vote on whether or not they wanna be a state. I'm not quite sure that's imperialism. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong in any way, I haven't been completely following the whole thing.

Michigan's Upper Peninsula has tried several times to become a separate state.

Failed every time.

Along wit Puerto Rico we should add 6 others so Obama can be right about the 57 states.
User avatar #220 - chopyourhandoff (11/09/2012) [+] (10 replies)
If puerto rico is added as a state and california is divided in to two as audioclave suggested, all that is left to deal with is Canada, which is basically a state already
User avatar #245 to #240 - chopyourhandoff (11/09/2012) [-]
But its empty.
Trust me, Im Canadian.
We are basically their bitch.

For those who don't know, we (puerto ricans) didn't exactly vote for statehood.
In the elections, there was 1 question asking if we were pleased with our current status quo, it was 50% yes and 50% no. The people who answer no were asked additional questions regarding what they wanted, the options being statehood, independence, or to remain a free-associated state. Roughly 60% voted for statehood. Also, there were many people who answered no to the first question and left the additional questions blank. So, in reality, about 30% of the population wanted statehood, the rest were mostly to remain as-is. Thus, although the US apparently has always given us the option to vote on the subject since it was first considered in the early 1900s (don't know when), Puerto Rico is not likely to become the 51st state any time soon. A lot of people fear that our culture and language will be lost if "america takes over" which in my opinion is a bit over the top - sure we'll have to include whatever the US is teaching, but we're not going to be completely assimilated..at least I think not. (btw my percentages were rough estimates)

I'm actually well aware of this as I know some people who moved from the states to Puerto Rico. I don't see it becoming a state soon either. By being a free-association Puerto Ricans get fantastic benefits and avoid some of the pitfalls of living in the US.

As for losing the language, unlikely. The United States has no official language so they can't impose that you change languages, but they can probably recommend that English is taught in public schools, which should be taught anyway.

quick question....is there an infinite number of prime numbers? or is there some sort of algorithm that tells us how far apart each prime number is from the last prime number?

Did you know, there is an american institute who is offering millions of dollars to anyone who can prove this (the best known theory) correct?

This theory has been tested against the first billion or so instances, but, if you think about it, what's a billion next to infinity?

They shouldn't get voting right then. Then Romney would've won.
