The turkey represents Thanksgiving as it is a staple in the the traditional Thanksgiving meal. It is an American holiday where we honor a meal where some of the original colonists shared a meal with a local Native American tribe who helped provide them with food.

The same Native Americans would be victims of what is essentially genocide in the following years.
