I'm not Norvegian but PPP, GDP and average standard of living are all significantly higher then in USA.
Who cares what government TAKES when they give so much back.
Low crime, great healthcare for everyone, great education, great job security, great pension plans, one of the best infrastructures in the world and high transparency government. Half the shit that lobbyists pull to pass crapsack laws in usa are freaking illigal in Norway.
So yeah, I don't know about you, but if that was result, I wouldn't mind paying higher taxes.

thanks for automatically assuming i'm American... I'm dutch, and things are just about the same here except our criminals are punished for their crimes (which would seem like the logical thing to do) and the money that you spent on flatscreens for rapists is spent on better homes for the elderly and mentally handicapped (amongst which my brother). So even if you have ample money, there's always something better to spend it on. were both miles ahead of america though!

yet Norwegians have lowest return rate of criminals in the word.
Instead of continuusly punishing people and turning them into in-out-in career criminals, Norwegian way is to get people to change and not come back in.
So while it seems like extrordinory expense, its actually investment. Less return criminals, less people robbed, less crimes commited, less people in jail being spent on, more people in legal workforce paying taxes.
Expense well spent.

This is not violent crimes prison. Those are more severe.
Though after half time served, with good behaviour one can get transferred to this.
While I see your point, and I do believe that people such as serial killers, serial rapists and similar should be removed from society permanently and not in comfort, for most crimes this is a better solution. Prevention of more crime occuring.
