I am personally scared of the regret that is caused by the knowledge of death coming. Many opportunities to do something useful in life were never done. Life is long and many people take life for granted, but when death is near, they stop to think about the stupid shit that they've done. Take for instance, a high school drop-out drug addict nearing the end of his life. He would welcome death, but regret the fact that he had more-or-less wasted his entire life on drugs, whereas a better path could have been taken, ensuring a happy, more fulfilling life. This is what scares me the most, not death, but regret.

Not hell bent in any way, I would like there to be a afterlife, but why bother? if we can't properly test it, it's just a useless hunt. Theorize all you want, but you can't test it, so why bother? it will just be a question which burns up your mind for the rest of your life.
