Intelligent, stupid, fat, thin. It doesn't matter when they dedicate what life they have to serve their country and people. To keep us safe. Whatever country they represent, or whatever nation they vow to protect, soldiers earn the utmost respect.

I will pretend you are american.
Not because i think you are, but in order to prove a point.
You know, litterary/philosophical fiction.
North american teritory and population isn't threatened by anything.
No forces are trying to invade the U.S.A.
Every single damn country under the sun is menaced by terrorism, yet very rarely by islamic fundamentalists, and never have regular troops succeeded in stopping terrorist movements.
And that is from the times of the romans, through the middle ages, untill the 20th and 21st century.
Thus american soldiers aren't keeping you safe.
What are they doing, then?

I have no clue why your comment went straight to American soldiers failing at saving the American people and islamic fundamentalist. All I said was soldiers are to be respected WHEREVER they come from.
They are fighting for a cause, whether you agree with that cause is not the issue here. Good or bad, the reasons for fighting/protecting are usually the governments fault; send soldiers to obliterate a helpless town, or send troops to aid in the a natural disaster or aid a militia/resistance regime. Politics decides what troops do, this doesn't mean that soldiers don't deserve respect.

I went straigh to the USA because it's a valid example.
After all it's one fo the most military active countries in the world, and i have heard many americans saying that the soldiers fight to protect them from extremists.
Fiction, as i said. I took a position to prove a point.
I live in Italy, the same thing for italian soldiers.
I could have used the french Legion as an example, but France isn't as obvious as the USA.
Besides, you did say that they dedicate their lifes to protecting their people.
Unfortunately that's not what they end up doing, very often.
This was my point. Not that they're failing at something that they couldn't succeed in.
As you can see it does not conflict with your wiew on the questions, at all.

And now you have me thinking about the Hughes funeral scene.... dammit I'm depressed now.

That's so beautiful, when you put it like that, but American soldiers don't do that. They pillage, rape, torture and murder everything they see. War is a hideous thing, and can rarely be justified. And we don't need ignorant Americans doing these crimes against humanity for the sake of oil and their own interests.

Maybe America doesn't have the greatest leaders, but our troops are sincere. They do what is right, not always what they're told.
User avatar #435 to #265 - bronytarek (11/03/2012) [-]
Yeah, so rape is right? So torturing is right? They might be sincere, and ignorant enough to believe that they're defending their country, but that's not what they end up doing. The soldiers just comply with the government's poisonous foreign policy. They end up terrorising a local civil population, that hasn't a thing got to do with Al-Qaeda or Taleban. They killed 1.6m civilians and bombed a country back to the Stone Age. (For those of you who don't know, I'm talking about Iraq) .They could choose not to draft into the military, but they do anyway. And they're ignorant enough to believe that they're fighting for a good cause. I don't know what to feel about them. Because of all the cases of rapes (even with other female soldiers), and all the bad things I hear about the American military, I don't know whether to feel angry at the government or the soldiers for complying in such a sheepish manner. If the world needs a police officer, it is certainly not the U.S.

So apparently ALL Americans are ignorant? Sure there are SOME ignorant Americans but there are ignorant people in each country. You're one of them.
Not even vikings were as bad as you try to make US troops look.

Did your Palestinian leaders tell you that?
User avatar #431 to #257 - bronytarek (11/03/2012) [-]
What has that got anything to do with anything?
User avatar #448 to #431 - dustyshane (11/03/2012) [-]
Because you said you're Palestinian.
User avatar #446 to #431 - bronytarek (11/03/2012) [-]
My Palestinian leaders teach me about human rights, respect for humanity, peace and love. What does your Israeli leaders teach you? Fascism? Racism? Disrespect for humanity?

How can you claim that we're ignorant and then you make such a broad generalization? That's showing some ignorance on your part. Just saying

I'm exagerating to make a point.

And if another country does something it's okay?
User avatar #239 to #233 - ellenrimbauer (11/03/2012) [-]
This seems a bit harsh. Maybe some do, the rape thing I don't even know, but normally if someone that is not in command is given a job to do they probably cannot ask why or question the person in charge about their moral standards. War is horrible but it is not like people enjoy doing it. I've met a few military people and they seem fine enough, my brother is a Marine and my other brother is going to be one, if they ever get sen to fight for their country or defend their country then they will be following their orders trying to do their job.

You sound pretty damn ignorant yourself.

America is a young country. You can't blame them for everything they do.
