I'm an acoustic guitarist, so i would recommend an acoustic guitar.

I personally advocate the Silvertone sd50, she's an improved pd2 with Grover tuners and a solid spruce top. She's priced at around 230 on musiciansfriend, but i think you can get her for a bit cheaper on amazon. She's a beauty, i have a video of me playing one of my songs if you'd like to check out her sound.

She outdos $600 guitars and i've had some people say she's better than some $800 fenders/Gibsons/and an Epiphone.

But don't take my word for it, i'm just some dude on the internet aha. That's just what i think you should get :)

Note:Silvertone is owned by Samick which makes the guitars for Gibson and Fender and a whole splurge of other brands.

oh :( well the pd2 was my first acoustic guitar, she was about 60 bucks but outdoes 200 dollar guitars, so she might still be worth it :)

While everyone is on the topic of guitars and amps, I'm planning on getting a new practice amp. Budget about 300-350 dollars, any ideas FJ?
User avatar #118 to #40 - zdshdci (10/26/2012) [-]
www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEM7CPULF6k

Check out that peavey amp, about 100-200 used for a sheffield speaker model. Sounds great, as you can see in the video, keeps up with a hot rod
#46 to #40 - doubleac (10/26/2012) [-]
My line 6 Spider IV is a great amp for $100, and i don't know anything about amps in that range. I can only advocate the Line 6 Spider IV it's an excellent starter amp. Although i can't say much anymore, because i'm mainly an acoustic guitarist.
User avatar #50 to #46 - Tvfreek ONLINE (10/26/2012) [-]
I already have a 15 watt Peavey amp, about 12 or 14 inches. I wanted something louder, but not like a cabinet or anything.
Sam Ash was having a "get $45 off anything over $250" and I was going to get a new amp for X-mas anyway. I was looking at a fairly large used Fender solid state amp in store. I couldn't tell you the model or dimensions cause it's used and not on the website.
I just want recommendations. Of something louder. Alot louder.
User avatar #55 to #50 - Tvfreek ONLINE (10/26/2012) [-]
Also, the guitars I have, are 1) An Ibanez Semi-hollow body Artcore and 2) a Micheal Kelly acoustic/electric. I got the acoustic/electric for $85, originally about $150 but it was used and damaged. Ibanez was bought new for $550.
#61 to #55 - doubleac (10/26/2012) [-]
You would have to find an expert in this, i'm defintely not an expert in amps, i have more acoustics than i do electrics for this reason xp

Nonetheless i do understand what you're talking about, what kind of sound do you tend to look for? Or are you just trying to blow someone's head off like Jack Black?

I play alot of prog, punk, alternative, classical acoustic and pop acoustic. The biggest bands i play are Porcupine Tree, Tool, Foo Fighters, Rise Against, Incubus, etc.

Basically blowing someones head off, but retaining that clean sound for dramatic dynamic switches. I also play with my low end all the way up, cause well it has more kick.
#70 to #66 - doubleac (10/26/2012) [-]
it looked somewhat like this, i'll ask my old music tech teacher what model it was, she's small but i'm sure she comes in a bigger size

Sam Ash doesn't seem to carry Carvin's. None online.
#68 to #66 - doubleac (10/26/2012) [-]
Have you taken a look at Carvins?

They have a nice deep fluid tone that just kinda soothes the ear as you play. I'm pretty sure they might suit you.

I've only played with a single Carvin for my music tech class, we used some sort of stratocaster along with it, she had a deep sexy tone. Looks somewhat like this amp. It's how do you say, uses the tube instead of solid state ? I need to brush up on my knowledge of amps and guitars, gosh >.<
User avatar #71 to #68 - Tvfreek ONLINE (10/26/2012) [-]
Dude I'm no expert on equipment either, but damn can i use mine. I've been playing for 5 and a half years and recently picked up violin. Anyways, tube amps do tend to give off deeper tones, buuut they tend to be more pricey.
#75 to #71 - doubleac (10/26/2012) [-]
Sam Ash. i'll have to check that out, i think Mucisiansfriend carries Carvins. I assume you know of Musiciansfriend yes?
Violin! Sweeet i've been meaning to try it out as well, but i live in apartments and i'll be kicked out for disruption of peace >.<
not fair considering my neighbors have sex to much and to loud, but that's besides the point.

You are right! They are very pricey i've yet to find a tube amp in the $300-$400 dollar range, one of good value that is, with a great tone.

I think i'm biased towards Carvin...
User avatar #78 to #75 - Tvfreek ONLINE (10/26/2012) [-]
Well Sam Ash has this sale through Nov. 18th for valued customers i guess, and i got a massive coupon, so I wouldn't buy from anywhere else. And that apartment thing sucks man. Play Cello or viola maybe? The lower tones are harder to hear through walls, at least in my mom's house. I'm only 15 lol
#84 to #78 - doubleac (10/26/2012) [-]
You know what the Cello does sound sexy, i've wanted a stand up bass for a long time now though. Tiny apartment, little room, my guitars are hiding in corners or on top of the wardrobe xp

It makes sense, you got a massive coupon so i understand. They should have a guitar channel here, for aspiring guitarists of this age and the time before se we can all share tips and info and discuss. Cause somehow i don't see how we can all hate each other when it comes to guitars, it just seems impractical xp

16 here matey :)

Well it was an early christmas present, I wont be getting anything for christmas, from my mother at least... I play prog alternative and pop acoustic in bands i've been in. Btw I've been wondering, where do you live?
#127 to #107 - doubleac (10/29/2012) [-]
my religion doesn't allow me to be jealous, but if it did i probably would be xp

such beautiful guitars! i wish i had a hollow body, but i don't exactly know what they do, i just think they look cool :) and that they're very expensive :O

Two Peaveys, you must like Peavey? Why not Line 6 if i may ask? How loud does the 100 watt go? Cause my 15 watt Spider IV is pretty explosive for a 15 watt amo, but it sure doesn't compare to a 100watt xp

i'm honored that you thought about me btw <3 flattered is a more appropriate word <4
User avatar #128 to #127 - Tvfreek ONLINE (10/29/2012) [-]
You must have misunderstood, there's one Peavey hahah. I did consider Line 6 cause that's what my instruction school uses, but this had a bigger bang for my buck, plus I'm not to fond of effects other than distortion.

The 100w shook my whole house with treble-4 mid-6 bass-10 on vol-2.

A semi-hollow or hollow (hollow will be my next buy haha) have a raw sound, distortion or not. Raw is my thing with how hard and furious I play, but for when i want pure beauty, I play that acoustic over there.

Also, nice touch with the "<4" I lol'd
#109 to #107 - doubleac (10/26/2012) [-]
Haha goodnight :)

well love you too man :)
#126 to #109 - Tvfreek ONLINE (10/29/2012) [-]
Here's my guitars. The blue one is an Ibanez, semi-hollowbody artcore series AS93, and the black is an acoustic/electric Micheal Kelly, Nostalgia series. Both use Ernie Ball strings.

My Peavey, 25w, 8". And my 4/4 Cremona violin, don't know what brand the bow is.
#124 to #109 - Tvfreek ONLINE (10/29/2012) [-]
Hey, it's me. Just wanted to let you know what I got and show you my whole arsenal.

This is what I got, it's a fender FM212R. Has two 12" speakers and 100w output. Got it used for $229, it was a great deal!
It works like a ******* beauty, and there is a huge difference from my Peavy 8" with a 25w output.
For a little comparison, the kick pedal down there is about the size of my hand without my thumb.
User avatar #36 to #29 - nekozombiee (10/26/2012) [-]
As much as I'd like to take a picture, I can't, but I myself have a Mustang III amp, a Jackson Kelly, an Ibanez RG370DXZ, some cheap electro acoustic from Gear4Music and of course, the cheap Strat replica...
#48 to #36 - doubleac (10/26/2012) [-]
My strat replica is a Fever, i don't even know what model number. She broke within 4 months, half her nut fell off >.<
User avatar #52 to #48 - nekozombiee (10/26/2012) [-]
Haha, mine is some cheap starter one from Argos, got is about 6 years ago, it's covered in Guitar Hero stickers, still works fine, even has the original strings, nice and shiny :P
#63 to #52 - doubleac (10/26/2012) [-]
Wow! My first guitar(the black one on the floor) was from a starter pack from Target. It was a Lyon by Washburn, forgot the model no.

She worked just fine, named her Victoria after this girl i had a crush on for 3 years, (woe is me) she (my guitar) died about two years ago. :( She would've been 7 years old this april :(
User avatar #35 to #29 - dengekisushi (10/26/2012) [-]
My big brother used to have that same black and white guitar.
I can't remember if he still has it.
But I do remember him putting random strands of duct tape all over it, so then it looked retarded.
But yeah.

I'll leave now.

Maybe a peavey bandit 112 if you like solid state. Affordable and sounds awesome
#45 to #32 - doubleac (10/26/2012) [-]
Why thank you, and yes you're right i should definitely upgrade. I'll check out that amp. I for some reason can't enjoy peavey, i really like line 6 products but, they are a bit too digital for me sometimes.
User avatar #117 to #45 - zdshdci (10/26/2012) [-]
I always kind of thought as peavey as that amp you see 10 year old beginners with and that amp you see dust covered sitting in the corner, but when i found out about this amp, I was pretty amazed, I love it. The transtube stuff makes it sound just like a tube amp, and it gets pretty loud
