beerterror (10/24/2012) [-] Apart from obviously joking manner of the post - this is ******* possible. And if the robber is quick and smart enough, he can get the money out of the bank and disappear quicker than the victim can block and pursue the money-transfer.

ohgodwaitimatheist (10/24/2012) [-] Well, the money has to go somewhere, AKA, the bank account that belongs to the person which has the machine, so they wouldn't get out of it so easily, given that it is registered on the robber's name, and there would be data regarding his adress and stuff.
With the proper legal methods, one could "block" the payments, so the money that will come to the bank account couldn't be "moved", so it would be safe to say they would get paid back.

billybong (10/24/2012) [-] I was going to ask if this is real, but I saw that it is a few posts down.... This is one of the worst ideas I have ever heard of as far as security goes (but it would be convenient).
iOS isn't exactly 100% secure and skimming is already a problem with hard coded Eftpos terminals..... if you know a about encryption and electronics it's really not hard if you have physical access to the machine to record the transaction and then run a brute force decryption
Now you can run your card directly through something that can be "hacked" to skim your details in an instant.... in fact the iphone could even do the decrypting... mind you it'd be pretty slow.
Now I don't normally wear a tin foil hat (I don't even often run an antivirus) but this idea has the potential for a colossal *********** once someone works out what they can do with the card reader and a jailbroken iphone.. eg a shop keeper, does his normal transactions, skims the card's details and sells them, it's known to happen.
The only idea worse than this is using NFC or RFID for transactions... you don't even have to be close to the phone or credit card to activate it... If you increase the wattage on an RFID reader, and are able to direct the electromagnetic waves at a credit card and receive them... you can steal credit card information at a distance of maybe 5-30 meters depending on which part of the RFID you need.

But nobody's going to trust some guy with a dodgy looking card reader attached to his phone.... they will however, trust any idevice with this attached
