Personally speaking, I believe the term metal has evolved since the 80's and 90's. Amon Amarth and BTBAM are two completely different bands. The notion that BTBAM fans are smarter than other metal bands isn't necessarily true, but you have to realize that BTBAM don't take traditional takes on their music. They abandon choruses and refrains and instead stick to thematic material that develops as it goes on, giving slight references to either other pieces of work or other themes involved in the song. I can say that the MUSIC is smarter (more theory) than most other musics (rap hip hop), but that doesn't necessarily mean that it is better in terms of music. It's all just an opinion
