you know, the fact he diess in water could be because his armour weighs a ton and can't float.
User avatar #368 to #363 - Sethorein (10/22/2012) [-]
but it's airtight... and must have it's own O2 flow... I mean... he can breathe in space...
User avatar #377 to #368 - friendlysniff (10/22/2012) [-]
But he's trapped. like how would he get out.
User avatar #379 to #377 - Sethorein (10/22/2012) [-]
...he can walk, can't he?
User avatar #380 to #379 - friendlysniff (10/22/2012) [-]
well, lets say he can't climb the slope, like, what if its too steep? or it just goes straight down? then you're ****** .
User avatar #381 to #380 - Sethorein (10/22/2012) [-]
no more ****** than if he tried to climb a slope on land... the suit doesn't absorb water... he wouldn't be any heavier in the water than out of it, it's just that the water would provide a bit of resistance...

Ahem, none of you know he isn't actually dead and just get's in a stasis pod at the end of Halo 3 at the end of the legendary playthrough credits ;)
making all of your comments irrelevant, you're welcome

...we aren't talking about the chief, bud... we're talking about how spartans apparently have 0 tolerance for water.

I get that they drown very easily but just a question, as I play cod more, are spartans humans in fancy gear or something else?

As lonemercenary said, Spartans II's, the ones which appear in the Halo games, (there are also spartan 3s in the novels) were kidnapped as very young children, trained in a military camp by a drill sergeant, and educated by the best AIs at the time. At around 16 they were injected with a series of drugs which were meant to push their physical capabilities and heighten their senses. I forgot the exact numbers, but something like 1/2 were killed by the injections, another quarter were hurt to the point that they could no longer serve, some of these people ended up in ONI and others were discharged, so only 1/4 of the spartan trainees even got to see a suit. The suit further augmented their senses and physical capabilities, enabling the fastest runners to go upwards of 40 Mph, but the suits themselves are very dangerous. They had previously tested the suits on regular humans, but their minds were too inept to control them and the suits would essentially break their bones. Only Spartans were able to control the suits with both superior brainpower and super-strong bones.

There are also Spartan IIIs, trained by a Spartan II and the drill sergeant who had trained the 2s. This one worked a little differently. Children were once again taken, but this time they had a less strict criteria. They went through similar training as the 2s, but received injections younger. Also, Spartan 3s armor is very different from MJOLNIR armor, it was light-weight and much cheaper to produce. Also, while there were very few Spartan 2s, Spartan 3s were meant to be mass-produced and totally expendable. On some missions ALL of the Spartan 3s were expected to die, and the missions would still be considered a success. The mortality rate was crazy high.

Also there were Spartan 4s, which consisted of augmented adults able to operate later iterations of the MJOLNIR armor. Spartan John-117 (Master Chief) was invited as their leader

And for the first time, I have reached the character limit, success!

Yeah, I didn't include the ORION project because it was an outright failure.

I actually find that very interesting and really want to play Halo now.
The whole spartan things very creepy but very intriguing

I'm not so interested in the games anymore, but the lore is pretty cool so I've read most of the books and played all the games to this point.
User avatar #385 to #376 - chevah (10/23/2012) [-]
I think I should start as well then. It's rather interesting

All this Halo talk got me thinking about something I've always had in my mind. People seem to think it's ridiculous that punching people does more damage than shooting them. I kind've think it's reasonable, seeing as your character has no problems flipping over an overturned tank. What I find unrealistic is how your gun survives that kind of ass-pounding, but then again... FUTURE!!!

No, that's actually true.
The other Spartans died. They're just always reported as MIA so morale isn't damaged when they die.

Not sure i fully understand the joke... In Halo 3 there are multiple points where you can enter water and you dont die.

For example in this video:

In halo 3, you'd die if you went into even the shallowest pool of water.
