was gonna go "not really a martial art then" but then i realized it mustve killed thousands of french people, go go parkour

Fun fact: The French only invented the term 'parkour' and basically got it more out in the world and had been put to use. Parkour had no definition but it's use has existed throughout history given other names by different cultures or no name at all as a skill of training through obstacles and was an art of desperate escape. Also. in Ireland, it was believed somewhere 206 BC or some time around there, a particular group in a rath somewhere use their fort to practice climbing and build obstacles in and out of their forts. Outside would confuse anyone attacking the fort by either tripping over the obstacles or getting lost on the way out (they would use giant stones and other natural resources as obstacles) and the villagers in the rath that had already known the art would use the similar-to-parkour skill to chase the enemies and or escape if needed to.

tl;dr: French only invented term and evolved it the fastest to get its term and pupularity. The skill (having no name at first) has been in use throughout history by many different cultures [the Irish being one example] and went through it's final evolution stage when the French happened.

I'm trying to practice lifting my own body weight so I can climb better. I already know basic vaults, rolls, can jump a fair distance.

It isn't hard, just start small.

If you injured youself so much you should have considered changing your training methods. When i started training i trained way too hard, got a knee injury and had to rest. After that, i learned to allways warm up, dont do high drops etc. Parkour isnt dangerous, training without thinking first it.. But you're right, people tend to think that just because they train PK they can do some craxzy shit that takes years to learn.

Well I pushed myself too hard doing it, and it wasn't from doing stuff that was too big for me, the back injuries were from front flips and because of them I learned I have degenetarive disc disease. And the knee injuries were from my outer leg muscles being stronger than the inner and a cyst behind a kneecap that parkour made worse.

But yes it can be really safe if you do things properly.
