The joke is centered around the usefulness of being a philosophy major. Finding this funny implies that you are a pragmatist. Being a pragmatist, you would not waste your time on funnyjunk, since accessing this site is not useful in the least. If you were to argue that the site provides laughter, which is healthy, I would argue that your posting this content is useless, as the only thing you gain are 'thumbs', which serve no purpose at all.

MFW I'm a high school debater and I critique the mindset of the underpinnings of the language/position of the Affirmative/Resolution using psychoanalytical and philosophical (including all branches, metaphysical, epistemelogical, and ethical) indicts.

Philosophy has to be the most interesting subject with the least amount of value in today's society. I wish we could go back to the roman mindset where philosophy was a god tier subject.

Yes, and therefore we can hold the moral high ground as we serve you your burger.

I get this all the time when I tell people Is study psychology.
"Have hey taught you how to say "do you want fries with that""? No, because I'm not so retarded I need to be taught a string of words...

I'm doing what I enjoy, and will be until I graduate at PhD level. Then I'll focus on working in McD's

I would insult philosophy students for their poor choices, lack of usefulness and dead end careers...But I'm unemployed and can't even afford to be a student. **** .

Well, for a lot of people, money is not the most important thing in life. Happiness is, Insight, Wisdom, Learning itself etc.

Many people dont want to throw themselves in this meatgrinder of modern day economical thinking, where everything is just numbers and stats and everybody's (social, ...) status is just defined by economical success or usefulness for financial profit (whose profit btw? Def. not societies').

For a long time, the fine arts (including philosophy) were the **** and likely will be more important again in the future.

As you are well aware of, man has technical items he weren't event capable of dreaming of 10 years ago. It will be even more amazing in the future. We can now argue with other faggots all over the world in a split second about cat picutes.
But humanity itself hasn't changed a bit: Greed, intolerance, injustice, war because of ressources, war because of even more stupid things.

Not everyone can (& wants to!) build robots or particle accelerators. Man is born for more than (just) that.

TL;DR: Human mind is awesome, so why just use it one business kim jongistration and physics? Philosophy isn't useless, it's something a lot of people could learn a lot from.

Just because some people are more succesful in today's (!) money-grubbing world, it doesn't make them a better person. And it doesn't make a philosopher a worse one.

You know, I don´t understand the people that think that the philosophy is useless... I mean, not everybody finds his happiness in money, and almost all the social progress came out of the philosophy...

"comes out of the philosophy" that statement is why philosophy is useless. Philosophy is a hobby not a career i can be an engineer and philosophize in my down time.

One of the reasons I decided not to opt for art is because I didn't want to feel like my favorite hobby would suddenly become a stressful obligation. So I majored in a field that I had a keen interest in but no hobbies in and here I am majoring in Chem Eng. I think if you really want to make something a part of your life don't turn it into a career since you might end up hating that hobby or interest later out of redundancy in your work place.
