I didn't forget that, the scientist didn't use him, they needed him to do what he did to be able to do the science. A scientist is nothing but a man with facts and theories without the required instruments and test. Felix did more for science in one day then you will probably do in you whole life. He did do some science though, granted it was through a more by proxy way he still played an important role. And it couldn't have been just anyone because he played a big hand in the designs and planning. Not to mention he is also highly trained. His jump and him during it provided a large quantity useful science

He was trained as a base jumper, he pretty much had to do the same thing here. He planned nothing, his trainer (the older jumper) did more planning than him. He was just lucky that they choose him. It wasn't his project and he wasn't the one financing it. He did nothing "science" stuff, he might have participate in one as a tester.

You do know he did actually help in the designs of the suit. And
Redbull funded this and he was working on this jump way way before the scientist showed up to piggy-back info from his jump. Also to say he did little planning is like saying Hitler was actually wanted juice.

Not only did he do an entertaining stunt for Red Bull, but scientifically, he was testing the capabilities of sky diving from outer space so in the future if an emergency happened in something like the Space Station that would require immediate abandoning of the spacecraft, you could simply bail and chute your way down.
