maybe cuz pokemon came out first, has a long running anime, about ten or more movies to offer (which are actually movies not just spliced episodes), more memorable characters, and a way more fun game series which was the pinnacle of most of our childhoods
Though I liked both, Digimon was the one that played for us who didn't have cable. That and it had the better stories and flowing narrative.
Any of you ever notice how much Digimon has in common with Magical Girl anime?
First are the transformation sequences that, while they are cool, take up a lot of time and is in every episode and you have to watch it for everyone digimon (sometimes when a lot of them digivolve they speed it up but still)
Second they defeat creatures who are actually good but have been corrupted by some dude, who in the first season looks like satan, if he was a leather fetichist. And they defeat these creatures with "magical" objects, and the last guy (i season 1 anyway) is sort of defeated through the power of love.
It's not exactly like a magical girl anime, but they do share similarities. I don't know why this is important i just thought about it and wanted to share.

I loved Digimon so much more then Pokemon...I dreamed of having a Digimon :O I'd much rather have a monster I can talk to and have discussions with...
The only Digimon series I enjoyed was Fronteir. The others were meh.

I enjoy both, and i still tend to watch a couple of episodes from the first season of digimon on Tv
after rewatching the first, second, and third seasons of Digimon I can understand why it fell behind. In the first season, it was difficult to fully understand the digimon world and the plot had a lot of holes; the second season made it worst. But the third season was really good, but it was too late to catch up to pokemon.
