Scarification has been around for thousands of years. It predated tattoos. It's not a hipster thing at all. No I don't have one.

Doesn't make it any less stupid though. Besides, I haven't seen a single person, except the one on the picture, with something like that. So for an average person, I'd say that's a pretty hipster thing to do to yourself.

Then you have no idea what the word "Hipster" means.

People trying to stand out from the "mainstream" population of this planet, aiming to be as original as they can, often doing stupid shit that makes no sense. Besides, I said "average person". I looked it up and it's been practiced on different tribes and shit for a long time now. Can't say a person who belongs to a tribe is an average one.

It's more than just practiced in tribes around the world, almost every person I know who is into body modification knows exactly what scarification is. Sure, that's subjective but the point is that it is well known to many people.

Also Hipsters are not trying to "stand out" they are a direct Counter Culture, a group of people purposefully trying to be the opposite of what current culture ideals are. So, for example, Rock 'n' Roll entusaists during the 40's Nerds during the 50's, Hippys during the 60's, etc. Anyone who is currently, and purposefully trying to go against acceptable mainstream culture is a Hipster.
