The difference between the religious and the secular is that religion provides doctrines while secular freethinking doesn't. "If the whole world was atheist or secular, good people would do good while bad people do bad, it takes religion to make the good do bad." Stalin was a bad guy not because of his Atheism because it doesn't offer any doctrines. While the religious are influenced by the doctrines of their correlated religion.

I disagree. The deaths were the direct results of his orders (with farm collectivization policies and purges of political opponents). He did not directly kill anyone, but he was personally responsible for most of the deaths, because he directly gave the orders.

I think people understand when I say "kill" I mean "caused". For the longest time I've heard people say "Hitler killed 6 million jews", I doubt hitler himself killed one jew,but without him the mass killings would probably not have happened,at least not to the same degree.
